EAST TEXAS HOG DOGGERS FORUM

It's always fun to track hunt and after yesterday's big rain the conditions were perfect. Big E was gonna end up hunting by hisself ad texted me this morning if I wants to go. There wasn't much to do at the ranch where I work bc of the rain and it's an off day from school so I met him in new Waverly. We rode out to the lease and the frat feeder we come to is a very impressive track an rooting but it was old as it had that mornings corn in it. We put Eric's old black dog Blaster down and Briar.

After 45 min or so one of them finally lined it out and they jumped him up. From then on this hog made tracks, there weren't many circles made he just flat left the country. After about an hour into the race and 5 or so miles in we fouled up the two dogs and pulled in front of them, regrouped and sent them back in where they picked him up again. It's going a long and they are still on him but I have pretty much given up hope of stopping this guy. 9 miles and 2.5 hours into the chase, Briar and Blaster finally bay this daddy didn't marry mommy. We turn Jet, Ruby and Libby to them. As I'm 20 yards from the bay, the cur dogs catch him. Let me tell you, there were dogs flying everywhere! At this point we're still not sure if it's a Barr hog or boar. I scream for E to send me Obama and Redman. I get just about to catch him when he slings everything off and leaves out with dogs hanging all over him. Not far behind him are the anchors so I know we'll get him caught soon. 200 yards later through a youpon and line thicket I find them caught in a bad stump hole. This Barr hog was some kind of fighter, neither bulldog was touching the ground and cut dogs were still getting slung like crazy. He eventually made enough of a move so that I could get some tail and get him flipped and tied. He nicked a few dogs, Ruby got it the worse but everything made it through the adventure. It sure was nice to put a hog at the end of the race, especially with the B team on the ground. He pulled a 295#'s on the scales. This hog has really great tips and bottom teeth which will turn into a great skull mount when we clean him for sausage later. Hope you enjoyed the story. Like I was gonna say before, I don't think it gets any better than track hunting.  If you have a dog that you can put down on a track that you know is a stud, and can depend on him to put the hog on the other end of it, well it's a pleasure.  Track hunting gets me amped up. 

Nice Hog. I have always like track huntin, especially where there are not a lot of hogs. You get a good idea of what kind of nose your dogs have and you can catch a lot of big hogs..

I agree, track hunting amps you up in a different way, because you take some of the variables out and know you are dropping your dogs on something good! This hog desperately tried to dump the dogs on other hogs but he never could find them.

Yeah. I got it but, my busy season is picking up early. When I get a weekend to do it well get together as well as hopefully chance and Alan and bust some barrs

Dang good Barr hog Tony!  Sounds like the dogs did an awesome job!  Is that a hog that yall barred?

Not sure Jared.. He didn't have any ear marks and a long tail so we couldn't tell. We do cut them that way occassionally. I personally enjoy more of a tail, sometimes people get carried away and cut it too short. I enjoy being able to grab a handhold on something. He was a very big framed, long Barr. Not much fat on him when comparing him to others. Probably why he ran so far. He was probably over 300 before the race and ran that 5#'s off lol

Hahaha ;) I know right! After we caught him we said the same thing but he ran tooooo far to get kicked back loose. We'll just have to find more
