i carry but not all the time. Some folks knock it but the same old rules apply as any outdoor activity with firearms. Safety, safety, safety.

A 44 is a good choice in my book.

I carry a .357 mag. Only had to use it twice. Some folks don't like guns on hunts. If I'm hunting with some one I've never hunted with before on there place Ill always ask if it's ok to carry. If not its no problem. I'll leave it in the truck.

No guns here. Too many liabilities. My father-in-law teases me about going and taking a gun but I dont trust someone else shooting when my dogs are around. The people I hunt with have some kido's help out so guns are a "no go". I respect that they dont carry, but on the same token if I am hunting by myself then I am carrying.

I like for someone to carry a pistol or I keep my .44 revolver close by.  I don't take it to the bay with me but I know its close by if I need it.  I have had a couple situations that I have been in where I NEEDED a gun and those memories are what make me want to keep one handy these days.

We don't bring guns. One of the places we hunt doesn't allow guns on the property. Although I probably should at least pack one in the cammel back for the places that will allow it. Never know...  >:D

I never go without a firearm of some kind......no exceptions. I do understand that some of y'all, ninja included, hunt on places that don't allow you to carry. Plus a lot of you hunt at night which can present another kind of problem. It's my opinion that when you're hunting an animal that has the potential to do serious harm to your dogs,....then you should carry a firearm in the case that it becomes needed to dispatch a hog or bear or whatever you're hunting. If I used a catchdog I'd for dang sure have at least a 22 Mag. handy. I don't really hunt at night so shooting is safer than for some of y'all that do. I carry an M1 carbine, which is a short 30 caliber rifle from WWII. I put a synthetic stock on it and it is, in my opinion, the perfect gun for hunting hogs with dogs. This cartridge will not shoot through a hog from the side if it's over 75 lbs., yet it will kill a 300 lb. hog outright if you hit it in the vitals. I've read too many stories on here from guys that don't carry a gun about their dogs getting killed by a big, bad hog that could have been shot to save the dogs. I know that shooting hogs isn't too popular with some folks and that's fine, but where we hunt we have to kill all hogs, period, that's how we get access to these places we hunt.

Hubby carries a .44 mag revolver. He has decided to let me carry a 10mm alo we only use them for protection.  And if the pig is too big and tearing up our dogs.

I always carry ! Most of the time I'm alone and don't have a catchdog with me cause we rarely get hogs !!(That's sorry huh). But I always carry whether I'm huntin or at walmart ! From pillheads to pigs I'm ready for anything !

FireMedic, one of the places is a children's home, and we like to help them out, but to do so we have to do it without the help of firearms. Our dogs are not used to gun shots either, so I wouldn't know what would happen. Funny you say that about an M1 because my granddad passed his down to me. I love that rifle, but carrying that in the woods would be complicated where we hunt. So we just stay on our dogs behind as much as possible, and no matter what type of hog it has been we have been there to either dispatch or tie it up. I'd like to think that we know what we are doing, but another side of me knows that we've probably gotten lucky and not gotten on one in a bad spot. I also think our dogs know their limits most of the time. They are gritty yes, but most of the time if it is a bad boy they will backup and hammer down on em until the CD gets there... Of course all this is the ideal way for it to happen, but out in the woods you never know. I will probably start carrying one in my pack though. And I have a Springfield Armory subcompact XD40.

I DIDNT CARRY ONE FOR  YEARS, AND THEN I GOT IN A COUPLE OF BINDS AND WISHED I HAD ONE. IN ONE OF  THEM WE BAYED A BAD BOAR AND HE WAS BUTCHERING OUR DOGS SO WE JUMPED IN AND TRIED TO HELP THEM. MY BUDDY ENDED UP WITH OVER 30 STITCHES IN SEVEN CUTS AND MY PANTS GOT RIPPED FROM MY CALF TO MY HIP BUT SOME HOW IT DIDNT CUT ME. I WISH I WOULD OF HAD A GUN THAT DAY. IT WOULD OF SAVED A COUPLE OF GOOD DOGS AND SOME PAIN AND SUFFERING FOR MY BUDDY. NOW I TOTE A TAURUS CIRCUIT JUDGE LOADED WITH .45'S JUST IN CASE. MY BUDDY CARRIES TWO M-60'S WITH GRENADE LAUNCHERS STRAPPED TO HIS BACK ! JUST KIDDING ABOUT THAT LAST PART. ;D

I carry a Ruger single 6 in 22mag and a M1 30cal carbine.  Like FireMedic I believe the carbine is the best gun for hog hunting or at least for me it is.  It will absolutely melt a hog.

Agreed, you never know when Sister Dottie is going to go off the deep end.  >:D

I miss my 23. I carry a 27 now, but the 23 was my baby. Shame on me for selling her.

I carry a .40 caliber never had to use it. My uncle carries a 1911 .45 we used a few weeks ago. I'm like the other guys I like my dogs more than a live hog.

If you think that this can't happen to you......better think again. :-\ You get a bad hog bayed in a ditch where your dogs keep falling in on it and can't get away.....you'll wish you had a gun.....don't matter how mean you think you are.

Carrying a gun and using a gun are two totally different subjects but linked. You don't have to use one but if you need to you have to at least carry one.I always carry something and only use them when I NEED to.
