Title: dog food ? cheap vs. quality
Post by: buddylee on February 01, 2012, 05:28:19 pm
How important do ya'll feel dog food quality is ?  I just switched to a higher quality feed without corn. Dogs looking better and less poop. Recommended it to a friend but he likes Purina. I feel a quality feed would lead to the dogs hunting better with more strength and endurance. I equate cheap feed to eating at a McDonalds and quality feed to eating at a Longhorns. How much of a difference does it make on the dogs eating cheap feed vs. quality feed ? Anyone have personal experience with this ?

your right buddy , a dog can do more work on good feed . raw meat is the best . i also use a madium quality feed and add milk replacer , raw eggs and meat grease .

Well me and some buddys put it to paper once and found out that pound per pound of dog food we fed 3 to4 times as much of the cheaper less quality dog food so even though the cheaper dog food costs less per pound you spent more because you had to feed the dog more of it to get the same results imo buying quality dog food is more cost effective and better for the dogs

I think alot depends on how hard you really hunt them. i hunted coon hounds for years on purnia dog chow. i now feed PMI K-9 advantage which cost more but feed less and have less stool. i do think you can go overboard on price if feeding alot of dogs, JMO
