woke up on sunday morning around 8 and got the dogs and the gear loaded up and headed out, we started out at the back of our property and headed east, we walked for about an hour and a half and loaded up and went to a place we call horse shoe road, we started in and after about 20 minutes of hunting smoky let out a howl and we knew we had a hog, she was bedded down about 15 yards from the creek bank. she was bred and had 6 piglets still inside she was bedded down ready to have them.

I did want to let you know however, that she is not close to 300 pounds.  She's a great catch, but 300 #'s, she is not.  A 300 # hog fills the tailgate and then some.  Keep catching hogs of her quality, and you will have a very nice year.  Keep up the great work. 

unless my scale is way way off she weighed 298 pounds before we gutted her, she had six piglets in her. so if my scale is off that much please buy me a good one!

Ill second that. And it's hard to say something like that without coming off as rude. Think cutter did a good job of it.
Sorry doc but the sow looks more like 175. Just think if you wouldnt have killed her, there would be 6 more hogs you could have caught next year ;D

There are a lot of people on this site that over estimate the weight of thier hogs. Most, like yourself have at some point utilized an uncalibrated scale.  To help your ability to judge future catches, play around with your scale.  If you have access to 45# Olympic weights, they will work great. A gallon of water is also a great way to see if it is accurate.

It is very similar to watching Bill Dance fish on TV. In truth, there is a very big difference in a true 10# bass versus a 6.5 # bass that Bill says is 10 #'s.  I simply was letting you know that a true 300 pound hog is much bigger. It is awefully embarrassing, and makes people come off as rookies when in the presence of a person that judges them accurately.  It can be perceived wrong, and credibility can be lost. I was simply trying to help.

Hey Cutter Bay... how much do you think this little sow weighs? She's on the back of a Honda Rancher... the rack isn't very wide.

Hey mike I would like to see a close up of how you ran that extension back off the ball and up to the rack on a solid axle rear end.

Don't know Mike. It is hard to judge in that one pic especially on my IPhone.

Out of curiousity, do you feel the sow Doc posted is 300 #'s?

Hard to tell from the pics ain't it? I've got pics of several big hogs that look a helluva lot smaller than they are... and some smaller hogs that look like monsters.

Cutter, 175 or so on the sow in the original post, 185 on your boar and Mike your hog was about 220. 

I think it's a good sow no doubt, I caught one last Friday night that I believe to be in the 300 pound neighborhood. This one was bigger than most of my recent boars.

This does bring to mind the issue of perspective.

That's why i post usually what i sale them for because i know how to take pictures! ;)

Don't get me wrong Doc good catch no matter what it weighed.  A caught hog is a caught hog and you know the story! 

I understand wjere your coming from and I thank you for your opinion on her I do, but I used the same scale that we weigh our show steers and they are calibrated right, if you would like I can send somepictures of her on the scale and the weight? After we gutted her and got the piglets out she weighed 226, and if people don't want to believe that she is 300 then that's fine your intitled to your opinion and your more then welcome to come hunt with me and ill show you how we weigh

Cutter, the length of a hog on a tailgate doesn't mean number 2 to me... there's lot's of short, fat people that weigh a helluva lot more than I do.

The hog I posted on the four wheeler was a helluva lot shorter than the one Doc posted... she was 305# and won us the heaviest hog at last year's Blake Granbury tournament.

Keep hunting and don't worry about it...  Imight take you up on that invite and show you how to photo crop! ;)  You can make a 150 pounder look like a 400 pounder!  Just look at LionBoar's pictures! ;)

Anytime y'all want to come down its fine with me, we got a little over 300 acres to hunt here in Brenham and it's full I'd big hogs! The invites always open and Bennet the hog we got was shorter then that spotted one but really long!

I'm with Monty, weight doesn't matter a pig is a pig! And personally she looks healthy to me! Nice catch.

How'd them piglets taste? I would think they'd be pretty dang tender and tastey but there's something nasty about eating babies in uetero

There real good n tender, just marinate a couple days and will fall apart when slow smoked or grilled  >:D

this is another great example of a big hog and a bad camera angle i swear up and down that this boar went 300+ it took me and another friend to flip him as you can tell we were all wore out

and another that was atleast 300+ the picture of Doc's sow was laid across a larger trucks tailgate then this and this hog was across the whole tailgate. not saying that his sow is huge but 300 is possible

I caught a FAT sow hog two months ago that I woulda guessed a little over 200 and was astonished when she went 335# even on the hog buyers scales. I'll see if I can't get a picture of the hog and the receipt

Matt said he weighed 392.  Matt knows how to take pics.   ;)  That being said, the first pic sure enough gives a good idea of just how big he is.  No matter what all you politically correct individuals want to say, that sow was not 300 pounds on a calibrated scale.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

That's why I ask a lot of questions.  ;) There is no telling by a pic (unless its sitting on a scale, and still even then sometimes  ;) ), but I can honestly say that yeah, the sow doesn't look 300... but so what if it is or not. That's a good size sow, and a man should always be proud to have a dog find, bay, and do it's job. A catch is a catch whether its 40lbs or 400, so just keep hittin' em hard Doc!

Kdbfh, I dont believe you had any right to post this and call someone out as stupid for stating what they weighed there hog for and know to be true,I don`t care if the hog is 300 or not It`s none of your`s or my buisness,Besides I recall a post of yours entitled (Ole Boar we killed last year) In which you say (weighed about 300 and cut three of my dogs) rolleyes. Well the sow here is every bit as big as that boar and yet when it`s on someone else your happy to jump in and mockingly say you`s stupid.Whatever just my opinion. By the way Doc good hog.

Just so you know, I never thought for one second you were trying to deceive anyone.  I figured you just truely thought she was 300 pounds.  I could care less if they are 40 pounds or 400 pounds.  I like when dogs get them bayed, and hold them there.  I'm always happy to see young men get in the sport.  In case you have not noticed, I call it like I see it.  The perception is I'm a jerk.  Well, I've been called worse.  I am an honest guy who enjoys poking fun, just as much as getting fun poked at me.  It's all in having a good time.  It was never my intention to disrespect you or your friends.  The fact that you have accepted that my opinion is just that, my opinion, tells me you may last around here.  Though there are thousands of members, the ones that participate frequently become a tight group.  I have been lucky to have met in person several on this site.  All of them have been great people.  I get together for hunts with some of the closer (I live in Florida) people when I can.  We always seem to have a good time.  Welcome to the site, and I hope you learn to embrace the friendly banter.  I should add though, I would get your girlfriend some gun safety classes before I handed her the gun again.  You are lucky something not so funny happened.  I've seen some crazy stuff happen on "accident".  Again, welcome to the site. 

I should add, you will keep receiving "heavy hog" jabs for a while.  It comes with the territory.   >:D

Thanks cutter, I just get a little heated sometime and with only being 18 most people think we dot know anything and with some that's true, I'm still in the process of learning a lot about hog hunting and would like to in the future get together with some of y'all that know a lot more then me and learn something! And she did ok for never shooting a gun before, I look forward to getting to know the people on this site more and maybe making a few new friends along the way

It don't matter what they weigh a hog on the ground is a hog on the ground weather its 100 pounds or 300 its better than nothin in my opinion. Nice hog either way.
