EAST TEXAS HOG DOGGERS FORUM

Team "No Yellow" consisting of Van Dorn, Mike, Lionandboarhunter and Jasonmac took second place in this weekends hunt. They put an unbelievable string together, but lost to first place by 17#'s.  They weighed 5 hogs in for a total weight of 1398#'s. We won big hog of the tournament with a 406# Barr hog that netted the team $850! The second place standing brought $540.

It was a good time. Thursday they went south of Lake Houston and played around in the mud all day. They slipped up to Livingston and caught 1 boar hog around 140#'s.

Friday they came to our country and we went to place we hadn't hunted in a year. We were thinking there would be 2 good barr's in there. Turns out there were 4!! Turned Girlfriend, Mikey, and Blaster loose, they hunted around for a while and finally they worked all the dress sign out and fell bayed! I got in there and got some of the best video to date. They bayed these 4 Barr hogs in a pone plantation. They kept breaking and I was videoing best I could. They finally set them down in a big briar patch so I climbed a tree to get a better angle. Lo and behold they decided to pick my tree as a rallying point and stacked underneath me for some pretty crazy video. Mike added hunter and tweety and Jesse's Drifter dog got there and they had the biggest Barr singled out and spinning. It took them a while to get in and good thin because just as they got there the cut dogs caught him. Everything relayed and rolled 3/4 mile to the north and bayed the 2nd Barr hog. A dog stayed in the woods and bayed the third which we got back around and they caught with all the dogs joining in. We regrouped and sent Boogie and Drifter back into the woods after the long toothed Barr. They worked it out and sucked him up. The hogs weighed 406#, 301#, 264#, and 258#!

Saturday was a wet bird, and Sunday we caught a good little feisty boar hog that weighed 169#!

I sure hope I ain't ban from the site.  Cause I told the team that one it where two good Barr's were. To me this was one of the better competition just cause of how close it was and the total weights of the hog. Great catches and a Barr at 406 is as good as it gets.

We had a real good time the past few days, I sure enjoyed it. I think we spent more time getting four wheelers, rangers and trucks unstuck then we did hunting!

Had a great time. Hunt Thursday was tough it was pretty wet in harris county. Friday was the best hunt i have ever had catching 4 big hogs in one day will flat wear you out. Tony, Big E it was a pleasure huntin with yall.

Can't beat it is right, regardless of placing it was the hunt of a Lifetime. Not only to catch the biggest hog we have ever caught but to bay and catch all 4 barr's was pretty neat

Very nice outing.  Flat awesome to get those studs under one tree Tony.  Ya'll did great.  I do have a question though, who is the kid at the top left of this pic (behind Mike)?  Little bitty fellow, but seems like he liked it.  Was it his first hog hunt?  Having the "club" hand doesn't seem like it keeps him from enjoying the outdoors.   ;D

Yes it was mine! I had a few more videos but had to delete them bc of my vulgar voice encouraging the slow pokes to get there and catch the hog.

Boogie is big E's 3 year old out of his Girlfriend gyp and a Bradley Countrymen male dog. He is the coldest nosed cur dog we've ever seen. If the hog is anywhere in his vicinity he's honna find it. We're learning to track hunt him a little more and he is really excelling at it. He's just a cur dog

Just being curious because I like to know the history of the curs dogs, specially the ones that are spoken of with respect. as where they go back to and how many generations they can be traced. some of the fellas on here have tracked the dogs back along ways and through this site have found common ancestory in dogs.
 I know I tracked Tweety dog back a few decades and found in very interesting, talking to the men that owned and bred her grand dogs, what they looked for in brood stock.
 Does Big E mind telling about his Girl friend and the other dogs Boogie is out of?

Krystal-  I am in NO way trying to get off topic or start chit but what does it matter who bred who decades ago??  (honest question)  I understand wanting to know about g-parents and such but it is of no use breeding wise who their ancestors were decades ago.  IMO . Just curious. 

Well sir I believe that If you are line breeding a dog several generations DO count, if the dogs are proven and bred in to their old age they will be into several decades at that point.

I have several  dogs on a list of "good dogs" that I may want to look into further, maybe one day when the time comes If I had to go buy/trade for a dog, where /who would I start looking and talking to . These are dogs I have researched information about , admire, and  even though they are not mine, could say nice things about. Like Tweety for instance. I do own a Tweety pup, Thanks to Mike for that. All I am saying I have hunted behind her for many years, I dont claim to have any credit in her breeding or existance but I admire her as a dog, the fact that her ancestors could be traced back several decades and to know that her ancestors were purposely bred to be working dogs for all those years, and she was not an accident or a "free" pound dog, road side dump dog, just made me proud to know that much more about her and her breeding and the work and efforts of all the people that went into a dog like her.

I heard from a credible source that Boogie dog was impressive, and sparked my curiosity and well thats what I do when I want to learn, is ask questions. plain and simple from an admiration point of view, what does it matter what my hobbies are?
some people like to drink beer, I don't I find other stuff to do with my time that interests me, might seem weird to some but I call it research to understand about dogs behaviors. History does repeat itself.

In Tweety's case I learned about some other bloodlines that were connected that may help with future endeavors, back track and retrace the bloodlines like a street map, and found some common ancestors in dogs I am already familiar with. It was a lot of time spent doing it.

That sir is why is matters to me, maybe not mean a dern thing to anybody else in the world.

It's alright Randy, if you had been there and seen what Boogie did you would understand it better. He cold trailed 2 of the hogs that none of the other dogs could smell or it was possibly too cold for them to take..

Them dogs sure can put on a show for sure.  You can only appreciate a dog of that caliber with your own eyes, and it definitely raises the bar for the younger dogs.

Haha I was just worried about the dead limbs on my tree breaking. They were about pencil thick and brittle. I was hugging that tree like a damn cat squirrel, especially when all that ivory started glistening under me. You'll notice about 15 seconds in, everything goes dark when they get under me. Well that's when I readjusted my hands to put a death grip on that pine lol

I had more thoughts of Animal Farm and getting eaten by pigs than worrying about getting a rope on one lol

Those were great videos and pictures. Not to mention the hogs. I was sure ya'll had it won on the first day. But there was some solid weights brought in, that I am sure would win many competitions.

Yeah, I didn't mean it to come off like it was wrote.  I really enjoy talking dogs especially good ones just ask Tony on here and a few others.  You can research dogs all the time and really come to like a line based on your research.  I only meant it's truly an experience to put in all that work in finding out about a particular dog or line and then going and hunting behind them. It's just the icing on the cake!
