Title: Re: knife laws in tx... are there limits on hunting knifes Post by: TX HOG on February 20, 2012, 04:14:18 pm I ask because I have one that I like
Title: Re: knife laws in tx... are there limits on hunting knifes Post by: TeJaShOgSlAyER on February 20, 2012, 04:24:16 pm I don't think any double blade knife is legal. But I could be wrong just what I was told by a close friend that's a game warden
Title: Re: knife laws in tx... are there limits on hunting knifes Post by: TX HOG on February 20, 2012, 05:26:19 pm That's what I thought. I just ordered an 8" ka-bar. Hope that's legal for hunting.
Title: Re: knife laws in tx... are there limits on hunting knifes Post by: TeJaShOgSlAyER on February 20, 2012, 05:29:19 pm Ten inch blandes are completely legal as long as your going hunting I keep mine in top of my dog box so they don't think I just drive around with a ten inch blade! I have never had no problem with it but it only has one edge on it!
Title: Re: knife laws in tx... are there limits on hunting knifes Post by: TexasLacy on February 20, 2012, 06:17:30 pm Texas State Penal Code 46, it deals with weapons, and a search of http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/docs/PE/htm/PE.46.htm will give you the full scope of the code. But, I will post a relevant excerpt from the code.
(6) "Illegal knife" means a: (A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches; (B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown; (C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk, stiletto, and poniard; (D) bowie knife; (E) sword; or (F) spear. Hope this clears it up for ya'll. I find it unfortunate, as I carry a Bowie. Title: Re: knife laws in tx... are there limits on hunting knifes Post by: TexasLacy on February 20, 2012, 06:28:27 pm Also, Take the time to appreciate the irony that the state that made Jim Bowie, and the knife that carries his name, explicitly bans the carry of the bowie knife.
Title: Re: knife laws in tx... are there limits on hunting knifes Post by: levibarcus on February 20, 2012, 06:49:52 pm I carry a 7 in blade and I feel like it is the minimum length for me. I have killed some with a 4 in blade, but have gotten in some wrecks where a big hog wouldn't die because I only had a 4 in knife. If I get another one I want to get the 8 in kbar. I don't think a 10 in is unreasonable. I wonder why it is legal to buy a large knife if it is not legal to own or use one. Is the 51/2 in law talking about what is legal to carry in public? I don't know, just asking????

Exemption: (3) is engaging in lawful hunting, fishing, or other sporting activity on the immediate premises where the activity is conducted, or is en route between the premises and the actor's residence or motor vehicle, if the weapon is a type commonly used in the activity; Title: Re: knife laws in tx... are there limits on hunting knifes Post by: TexasLacy on February 20, 2012, 07:19:03 pm didn't see that. Thanks.
