Title: castration Post by: TexasLacy on February 23, 2012, 06:49:29 pm I've only seen one barr hog in the woods, I see a lot of ya'll catching them on here, and I'm thinking they must be fairly common. I have never castrated any hogs myself, and I haven't ever seen it done firsthand. My question is, how is it done? In the woods? Just with your pocketknife? While they are hobbled? What do you put on the sack after its done? And, do you feed their testicles to the dogs?
Also, how often do you catch hogs you've cut that have your ear mark on them on the same tract of land you caught them on originally? Do you do anything to their teeth? Is it done for meat production, or just to try and make a trophy wall hanger? If you'll wind up hunting it for meat later, would it make sense to cut the cutters and or whetters off. Thanks, -Matt Title: Re: castration Post by: SwampHunter on February 23, 2012, 07:15:50 pm You can cut them in the woods , get you a sharp knife cut a small slit at bottom of sack so it can drain , squeze the nut will pop out it's got 2 cords , pull the nut up but don't yank on it , put knife close to sack as you can an let cords run over knife blade cutting there self do the same on both sides ,

Any my bag had sevreally scapples iodine hydrperioxide penicillin sutures 12 cc syringes and afternoon cortex. When cutting in the which is what we did. Take knife or scapple cut long line on each side of sack and pop the nut out take off the first sack the pull nut out and saw the the two views don't cut saw then do same to other nut. I use the process to wash down before I make first cut. Then after cutting fill wound with iodine. Give 12 cf of pe?nicillin in Ham and turn loose make sure it's bleeding
