I don`t think there`s any exact best, most of the top brands Honda, Kawasaki, Polaris, ect all have good well built dependable models. I have a Polaris sportsman 700 4wd right now that I really like but I could be just as happy with sonething like a Honda Forman probably...One thing I`ve noticed with my Polaris and maybe it`s just with it being a 700 but it does`nt seem to go as long on a tank of gas as a Honda I had before.. :-\

I've always owned Honda for my off-road vehicles and they never have failed me and last a lifetime! I've still got my 1970s CR 50cc and a few big red three wheelers. I always go with the Yamahas or Kawasaki for performance/speed but the Honda's for reliability.

I'm a die hard honda fan, have a rancher 420 now, have had 4 hondas and 3 yamahas and the reliability of honda always draws me back to them.

x2..................don't know about now but the older ones were trash...

as a young man I had  kawasaki and honda motor cycles and couldn't tear them up...

I owned a 1995 kawasaki 400 4x4 and couldn't tear it up. now have a 2000 suzuki 500 4x4 and only had carburator problems with it. I bought both new... But I use an oil additive called "MILITEC 1" when I change the oil.
Carb problems has more to do with the ethonal in the gas and this was told to me by the small engine mechanic.

I can't believe nobody has said Arctic Cat yet...   Anybody had a bombardier/can-am?

I wouldn't trade my Arctic Cats for another brand.  Traded in a Honda for my 2005 400.  Then drove 7 hours to pick up my 2004 650.  My hunting partner fell in love with mine and went and bought himself a 2005 500.
One of the best features is the rack system.  Both the dog box and the front platform are secured by 4 pins each.  I can remove both the rear box and the front platform in under 1 minute.
On the front platform I have the cargo bag, an ammo can, and camera tripod, all mounted securely to a 3/4 inch piece of plywood.  Remove 4 pins, lift it off.
The rear dog hauler I made myself out of small angle iron and aluminum sides.  Whole thing weighs under 10 pounds and will haul 6 dogs.  Remove 4 pins and lift it off.
Can't beat the full independant suspension for riding all day.   2wd, 4 wd, and 4 wd with front locker.  12 incles of clearance and power plugs for all my electrical needs.

Hey D,

I think the Artic Cat and Suzuki are about the same 4 wheelers from what I have heard. My 2000 Suzuki 500 4x4 has been ridden hard and it keeps on ticking... I use synthetic oil and militec 1 oil additive and change it every other year whether it needs it or not... ;D

Im a big Kawasaki fan. I used to do small engine repair on mowers, and have always thought the Kawi's built the best motors, with Honda's a very close second. I own a 99 Kawi Prairie 400 4x4, that when I bought it showed over 10k on the odometer which quit working before I bought it, so no telling how many miles it really has. And I havent had a lick of trouble from it other than the fan temp sensor that went out. Kawasaki wanted 70bucks for the sensor, so I just wired in a $4 toggle switch to manually run the fan and it is still going! The front CV joints are knocking and need replaced, but I only paid $500 for the thing so I am running it till it wont go no more, then will probably step up to a newer Kawasaki!

We ride ours through whatever South Texas has to throw at us.  If we can push it over, over we go.  Cactus, white brush, small mesquites, you name it.

As I mentioned above, the rack system is a real bonus.  I can come in from a hunt, pull the 4 pins, remove the dog box, and then drop my 25 gallon sprayer on the back and turn it into my weed killing machine.  All in a matter of minutes, very quick and easy.  I weld all my own gear, so my imagination is the limits when it comes to what I can weld and mount on the racks.  My brother has the factory built 2 man blind on his Arctic Cat.  He can drive to where ever he wants to hunt, unfold the canopy around the atv, and it's a hunting blind.  It's all in a self contained rack and carry system.  And when he wants to remove it, pull a couple of pins and it's off.

And my 650 has a Kawi built motor straight from their Prairie 650s, a very strong and reliable motor.

Just about all of todays atvs are built solid, it's just those extras that make an owner happier with one brand versus another.   ;)

the older arctic cats have Suzuki motors. All way up to 07 or 08 models.  Arctic cat didn't have ther own motors til they came out with the h1s. Now all arctic cats have h1 motors and they are tough

(http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff467/Brad_Spillman/650h1005.jpg)This is my arctic cat, I just swap exhaust and put my dog rack on it when I get ready to hunt and go. Only takes about 10 min to swap em out

ive got a 01 and a 04 polaris 500 and the only thing we've had to do with them is change batteries and new tires cause they still had stock tires on them. i personally like them alot more than other quads in those year models but i honestly think the grizzlies are probably the best bikes out there right now.

I've had 1 honda, a rincon 680 and HATED it! No low range and it was gutless! It wouldn't stay aligned, didn't have a hitch( not that it mattered it wouldn't pull anything anyway) and rode like a buckboard. I've also had an arctic cat couldn't keep the dash working no matter how many times it was fixed, besides that didn't have any trouble. A couple polaris' first one I totaled after many a hard miles the second I broke belts in all of the time. Had a kawasaki that I never had any trouble with finally totaled it too. (1 to many jumps and drownings) That being said if arctic cat still had a dealer close by I would probably get another as they are tough and have LOTS of power. I think the new polaris' are a lot tougher too and they ride very smooth. My next will be a ranger though because I can use it around the farm more.
There's my ramble for the day! :)

Everybody knows what honda stands for: Had One Never Did Again! :)

500 Honda will do anything I as a hog hunter needs and pull a dog trailer. If u want to play around go to the mud parks and stuff u might want something different. If u take care of a Honda you can expect it to last you. I have 97 model 400 Forman that still runs great. Just gotta replace some bearings on it.

I've seen hundreds of bikes go through the duck hunting lease I work on and the Honda foremans and ranchers are by far the best and most reliable ! Here is my new 2012 Foreman on 27" executioners !

I picked up a 97 Honda fourtrax 300.  Air cooled, two wheel drive, easy to work on, tough as nails, and it aint BIG as a tank! I can get between trees, runs up and down my rocky hills with no trouble. So, for my terrain, it's perfect. Now, i do have a diesel John Deere XUV Gator  being delivered this week for the bigger places i hunt.

x2 on the size...when I bought the quadrunner I bought the 500 because it was still one of the smaller sized wheelers...getting in the thick bruskhand trying to maneuver is tuff enough with this one so I can just imagine what it would be like with the bigger ones...

Get a Honda. It has a driveshaft instead of belts. That's what sold me on them. I have had a '06 Foreman currently have a '09 Rubicon and I love them both. I'd get a Rancher or Foreman/Rubicon but I'd stay away from the Rincons.
