Title: Another CUT VEST Thread
Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on February 29, 2012, 02:10:19 pm
Bryant,

Nicely put together dog.

Travis,
What exact model vest is that?  How old is it?  What would you like to change about it?

it is a uglydog gaurdian titan 4 layers of kevlar. what would i change....I would have bought the short one. and i would like the leg flaps about two inches longer with at least one layer of kevlar in them. most of the cuts to the dog have been right below the leg flaps. Other than that I think it is one of the best vests money can buy. it might be hot for summer time though. but hopefully he will know how to place himself better by then and i can get a lighter titan vest like tink wears.

I am in the market for a vest that I can use while hunting in Florida.  There is more warm whether, than cold whether here.  I've searched this site, and read countless threads on the best vests.  I am interested in the Wild Boar USA products (Uglydog) and the P & P vests.  I am basically looking for any insite as to what the current users would change about the model they currently own.  I will pay extra to get what will satisfy me, and protect the dog.  If you have pics of a model on a dog, and any changes that you would make, I would be happy to hear your opinion.

Thank you in advance.

 ;D

Thank you for all who viewed.

Flacracker hooked me up with a nice vest he has no use for. It fits the prospect well. Thank you again Flacracker.

on the uglydog vest i was talking about earlier today..... Mike and I were looking at it this afternoon and it DOES have kevlar in the leg flaps. the ole boar that cut it must have had box cutters for teeth. :P it got a clean cut through the leg flap about 3 inches long, but if the leg flaps were not there I probably would have had a cut dog. I would buy it again but in the shorter length.

Thank you again Travis. I appriciate you taking the time to explain both the pros and cons. The vest I got is an older Uglydog devastator if I'm correct. The stitching on the logo patch is comming apart, but other than that, it appears to be in good shape.

i will get the next one with coated nylon straps. the un coated ones fray and stretch when wet. this is an uglydog titan with 2 layers of kevlar. it has several punctures. injuries while wearing vest and cut collar: skin cut to upper throat, poke due to puncture, 3" skin cut to un protected area of stomach. this dog hunts in this vest year round. this dog moves very well in this vest. if your dog moves good in the devastator thats probably a better vest. i will get this vest again.

These pictures are from when I first got the devastator, I learned a long time ago if I let my cd run I end up have a hog run right in front of me, so he usually stays on a lead. And he usually has no irritation even after 6+ miles of walking.
I was confident I wouldn't need a collar with this vest, but he got a good cut to the neck a couple nights ago, his neck must have been stretched out of the vest while catching. But my bay dog got cut on the neck too and he had a collar on, so I guess you never know.
Also had him swim back and forth across a big canal a couple weeks ago and it didn't seem to slow him to much.

I really like it, but unfortunately last I heard from wbusa the person who made them quit, so they don't offer them anymore.
