Title: Ridgeback breeding combinations/ their uses
Post by: KerDog77 on March 02, 2012, 02:18:04 am
I am just curious who has a sure enough jammed up ridgeback. The few I have been around served only as guard dogs. I think they are one of the best looking dogs out there. They seem to be big, fast, and heat tolerant(from what I have read). With that said, I am wondering why you don't see more of them crossed in. They have the size to be rcd but some folks say they bay with them. Is most of the hunt bred out of them since they are popular in the show ring?
Here are some of my ways I can imagine how they could be used. Again I am inexperienced with them so I could be way off course.

with a dogo= lose the potential skin problems and get a lighter more agile dog
pit=  down size the frame and to insure more hold power
plott= better nose, possibly rcd, plenty of bottom, ruff bay dog
catchy bmc=  maybe slighty better nose, faster maturing, fast ruff bay dogs or rcd
ab =  insure all catch but be rcd

If I could put a combination together it would mostly likely be 1/2 bmc 1/4 plott, 1/4 rb

So I basically need to find a plott/ rb pup out of sure enough hog dogs and go drop it off at Monty's house for some vampire injection  >:D.

Please post up pics of your RB

My male is full catch and holds vary well.  He is strong he drug me and about a 200 pound pig around because my wife could not get him off.  I had a accident breeding of him and a mtn cur that the pups turned on well think there are just a couple alive still most were rough rough.  Have tried breeding him again to bull breeds and never worked tring it again have pups in the oven with a female pit.  He is my base of what I hope to breed my own rcds.  He is shorter range 200 or so.  I would not trade for him.  My female is going to be rough I think just started her but have not taken her to the woods yet.  Both seem to have some nose.  Like the breed think they are great crossed.  I rate them close to my lacys as far as brains.  They are smart and vary alert.  Ill try and post pics when I get better service.

Bout the only other dog I would feed beside a ybmc for hog dog use.

I like em crossed with pit and used as straight catch.
Usually very leggy and athletic. Can suck a running or breaking hog up Perty quick.

Only problem I got with em is they are usually stupid as a box of rocks but dependable.

This is gyp I have now that I plan to cross one day for a litter of catchers. Never have had much luck with them being strike dog material as straight line ridgbacks.

I wonder what a half Ridgeback, half Bird/Bull would turn out like? I bet you would get some real good ones out of that cross!.

I've got a RB/pit mix, he's around 8 months old and he hunts around 600 yards and bays until the catch dogs get there, then he catches. Ill post a picture later, good looking rb/cur man

Kaufman didn't post a picture of his real pretty good looking female ridgeback.  Man just the looks and intensity that female sold me on me getting one and glad I did.

This is my buddies male dog I am planning on breeding my gyp to when she comes back in.
This guy is a monster about 120 plus pounds and stands nearly waist high.
They should make small pony puppies with legs for days.

Straight Pet!   :D

Never saw the male on a hog. But without a doubt he is game as a rooster due to him catching the neighbors 1000 lbs Brahman Bull before he got taught mannners.  :o
The gyp is my wifes pet but is straight catch on anything under 200 lbs. I only know this from previous experience while the wife wasn't home and she wandered a lil to close to the bay pen and accidentally was thrown in. LOL. :-X

Main reason is I like Ridges and both are imports which tend to be alot larger than the americanized strains.
