Title: how do you train a hog to stay out of a trap
Post by: jagdtank on March 19, 2012, 06:02:07 pm
if anyone knows anything about how to trap break a hog let me know it has been a topic of discussion with some buddys of mine. mind you i dont condone releasing them its bad bad bad. I just wonder how it would be done for info purposes only i hate law breaking trap resistant feral hogs. They just keep staying alive and well and being there breeding like rabbits. I was in tex and they weren't catching them in the traps in this area because they wouldn't go in one i just wonder why? around here they about got em thinned out with small property's that are full of traps. I keep hearing people talk about how many they've caught and killed poor piggys shot down like dogs it might not have even been them that did the rooting.:)

catch them in a trap and then let them go. i have seen hogs get in a trap and then tear out of it and they would never go in another one

Just put out a trap. You will get one good load and then weed out the stupid ones. But to train a hog to stay out of a trap? Unless you want every farmer in your area putting a price on your head and every state official wanting you locked up I would say do not even waist your time. That is like asking how do I get a poison proof roach?

We work a hogs. If they can put a limit on a alligator gar.  Then I can catch and release hogs. We Barr them and release them. They wise up to traps real quick.

Catch them in traps and go around and take a pot or two and beat and bang on the trap for alil while and they usually don't want nothing to do with it.

Hair from a barber shop inside a trap works good to keep em out to.  I've seen guys do this on fence rows to make deer cross in a particular area.

Bad advice, I think you should Barr em hog dogger style.  That's more my liking.

A Barr can mess up just as much as a boar or a sow!! Yeah that may keep him from producing any more little ones but the only way to stop your land from getting destroyed is to destroy the problem. Just my opinion.

i havent even seen a pig track in a couple months. I thought it might be temporary used to be alot of sign. leaves churned etc. all i hear when some one finds out i have dogs is, how many this one or that one caught the other day just east of me their gone and there used to be tons of them there. Its sad for me and my doggy's good for the landowners I guess never saw any permanent damage done its rocky hilly ground. if they root up a pasture it looks the same as before in a few months. I could understand what row croppers would have against em but besides a rooted hay field once in a while I dont know why the ranchers hate em so much. I think its from publicity from places they hear about where they are over run. rather than actual damage. they all love catching em now their about gone. I have never released one myself because i dont want to be in a position to have to lie about it. I am tempted to move to texas but if i suggested it my wife would know why. I hate deer now their just trash game. i've been finding several dead ones too. i cant figure out what killed em.............got to go more later.

It's been argument forever.  Different strokes for different folks.  I'd buy 1000 if I had the money and Barr every one of them and cut them loose in my front yard.

i didnt say that is what i do but i do know that if a hog gets in a trap and then gets out it is not likely that they will go back in one

just to be clear i've been finding hogs dead not deer. I'm not very articulate some times.
