The only problem I've had w/ big catch dogs (I.E. ABD) is getting caught up in briars and such. Seems Pitts can worm their way thru better. It sure is nice using that 105lb ABD though, can anchor down just about anything all by himself, lol.

Wish I had video but I don't I run one out some and my pit flat got drug off by a big tall sow.  All she had to do is lift that head and take off.  His front feed were off the ground and I lost the hog and dang near lost him.  This is why I like leggy cds with a little lead in their butt.

I like both. Smaller ones can get through the brush faster and quiter. Bigger ones can stop a hog like an anchor. I have both so one may get there first and hold good enough for the big one to get there. But to be honest the big one can get there almost as fast. I saw a hog walking with dog earrings one night and I knew I wanted catch dogs that could keep their feet on the ground.

Modifying Abraham Lincoln. How tall dog does a dog need to be? Tall enough to reach the ground.

Small pit who listens and is calm for me from here on out. I'm about to start being as hard a judge catch dogs as I am of the rest of the crew.

I'm getting to where I'd rather rodeo a hog with nothing but curs and courage than put up with a dumb catchdog.

Little pits get through the brush better and are faster than bigger dogs. I see it every weekend, the big pits 80-100lbs get tangled up and my lil 40lber just blast through the thickest of briars and is always there first.

I like both for different situations I have a 55lb cd and a 110lb cd and they are both better in different ways

I am lucky my partner has some of each, I keep a 75 lb 1/2 gsp  1/2 abd He is a fair catch dog but shines brighter with another.

I've seen several little pits that are catching fools but the ones with short legs seem to get caught up in the brush top and vines where I hunt because there legs are to short. I like the pit my buddy has Becasue he has some leg and it helps him. Myself I just prefer AB's. Mostly because they are taller.

We use leggy 80 - 90 lb dogs to me these dogs have much better control than a smaller dog I've used both for many years I like the bigger dog also keep in mind we spend as much time training a cd to be obediant as we train a bay ,strike dog to do there thing

I like smaller ones due to thick brush. But I like big ones on a big hog. I wish I had it on video we had one caught and my apbt daisy was the only one hooked on just a 100 pound sow. I chased her around for 5 minutes tryin to get a leg and my bulldog was doin everything she could. But that hog was just flat out runnin around like was purebred said. A big catch dog would hav anchored the hog better but we also might hav broke bay Cus it was done thick nasty knarly stuff in there and he might not hav made it there

i got 42 pound short legged pit , an he gets through brush faster than all the other dogs catches an hasnt been draged around yet , the hog may walk in circles but thats about it , i have a big stag i use with the lil pit , he works good in clear stuff an the lil bulldog hits the brush good , but if i had to only use one it would be a small catch dog easy to carry through fences , deep creeks or anything  like that

I never have understood this, big dogs walk under fenced easialy. My favorite CDs are primarly, above all else ATHLETIC and hard. Seems to be most of them go 60-90 lbs. Short legs will get picked up and turned into a dish rag in the wind, not that you cant catch a boat load of pigs with a short legged cd but taller cleaner holding dogs are hard to beat once you have owned a good one.

All that said, the first time I saw a "real pit" from an old game line where they are 30- maby 50lbs and not what the majority of us use I changed my mind, they could run all day and bite so hard it crippled 300 lb hogs.

try getting them through some tight bobwire or hog wire fences , big dogs get vest hung in fence an stuff , little dogs through him over , not saying they are the best just what i like to use

Small catch dog (game bred). Especially in the palmettos here in fla, they barrel under em while a taller dog jumps around like a gazelle, my male heavy Eli/red boy is 45lbs.

I like your thinking; however I do run one cd just in case but he has to be big and leggy for my liking.
