Title: catch dog mix?
Post by: Purebreedcolt on April 10, 2009, 10:38:41 pm
Ok know I am going to get a couple of why dont you stick with what works but my parents and neighbors are strickly aganst pits.  Ok well i bought a ridgeback.  love the thaught but absoutly hate the puppy for 2 years.  I want a little quicker maturing dog.  Anyways to make a long story short what will I get if I cross my ridgeback with a 1/2 dogo 1/2 Amr bulldog.  Plus I do not want to have to worry about if the dog did axidently get out of a pen or leash around cattle goats etc.  I may be farting in the wind but in my pea brain and if i pick and choose right I might be able to get good traits of both the ridgeback and the bulldog?

lol that is what I am thinking it is just a hair brain idea but think I am going to try it anyways if it does not turn out wth I have not waisted nothing that but time money can be replaced and if i get what I want in the end it will be worth it I think.  I really like the ridgeback as a breed but HATE the puppy in them

Any type of dog that is used for stock work is going to mess with cattle or goats until its broke of it.  Bulldog x cat cross makes a good catchdog cross.

Any dog can catch. You just have to find one that suits you. I have seen pure blood catahoulas and yellow dogs catch as hard as any bulldog. With that said it takes a WHOLE LOT more searching to find one than it does to find bulldog that does it.

Clay, you are right about them hard curs and I have had some and hunted some, but it feels  a lot better to follow a bulldog in than a cur dog. :)

i know a guy in north miss. thats got a ridgeback that is a solid lockdown hold till the end catchdog . i have a bmc that will bay if he cant handle it but if he ever gets aholt i have to pry him of . hes on the ear if he s caught . its been said a million times, it depends on the perents and how the genes match up . im not fond of bulldogs either but that is the surest fastest cheapest and easiest way to go.   if you have the resourses i say go for it you might hit the jackpot with trhat cross , if not it ll be fun and a good experiance.    jmo
