There's more than one way to skin a cat. With that being said how do go about tying, how fast are you and what size rope do you like?

I may not be the best wordsmith but here goes
I use a 3/8 cotton rope about 6 foot long. I double the rope and put a clover in it, then put one leg thru ech clover, tighten down and run both tags back thru the inside of the back legs. Then each tag goes to a front leg with a couple wraps and a hitch not. Then wrap the ropes around the runners from the front and back legs and another hitch. Iknow pics would be helpful, maybe tomorrow I'll try to get one tied and take pics of my process.

3/8 is good to work with but too small in my opinion. With a prolonged tie the hog will lose feeling in his feet faster due to the circulation loss. Most of our ropes now are 1/2" three stranded nylon. I play a loop in both ends.. We like close to 10" because it loops twice around your body and leaves a decent amount to drag with once tied.

Tie back to front leg or vice versa, half hitches are all our knots are!

1/2" is still a tad too small in my opinion.. Ideal for us is 5/8"

Yeah if 10" of rope wraps around your " body" twice.... Never mind  >:D :laugh:

I understood what you meant, and I agree 3/8 is a bit small but I like to stuff it all in my pockets as I tend to lose it when it's around my body.

TShelly, you think you could post a pic or a diagram? I think I'm following you but not sure.

Tony you oughta make a slow, methodical video of it, and that goes for everyone who ties a certain way and has good luck with it.  I am off on a training exercise right now or I would.  I know from past discussions I'm not the only one who ties this way so maybe someone will show my way later on.

I use two pieces of mule tape, cross tie front to back. Easy on, easy off and fast.

 I use the coonass method. Two twists and a tangle.  ;D   Works great but heck to untie.

Theres not much method to my mayhem i kinda go at it kamakaze
but i havent had one get loose yet so i guess im doin ok.

I do it like Justin. Flip it and tie one leg and after that it's a few twists and knots. That bad bo hog ain't going anywhere. Well besides that one time doing drags I messed up pretty good but our pups did good and got it. :-X

Aight well yah need to stop the next linemen truck that passes by and bumm some of that 1 1/2 electrical tape. Promise it'll work. We hunt the Cape and half the time we get back there in them open prairie and its wet as all get out and you leg that sucker flip em and wrap his jaws shut get tham back legs together then the front and TIME!!!!! Throw emm on ur shoulders and get to truckin. Those cape hogs are runners so ur usually a good ways from the truck.

We use handcuffs, they will never come get loose, just can't forget where you place the key!

I've seen hobbled hogs as well as tied hogs. I choose to hobble mine. Seems to be easier on a hogs feet. My buyer is picky and if they can't walk the scale it doesn't pay. The tied hogs i've seen would be crippled if left too long.
Oh, an after learning from Tony and big e I can tie one up pretty quick I just choose to hobble. The right hobbles I think u c
and get the hog tied just as fast and easier on the hoof. 

I picked up a set of those new Velcro hobbles. They r my go to set for now. The straps are pretty wide and don't seem to cut the circulation like rope or hand cuffs. Besides had a friend loose the end of a finger with a flopping hog wearing a set of cuffs that mashed it off against the buggy rack. Any how the Velcro hobbles are quick.

mule tape is what i use if i dont have hobbles....i can leav tied longer if i have to and not have to worry about there feet......plus it always can be used for other thangs if need be

rock climbing rope

take front leg and loop and tie, then opposite back leg and catch around the hams and butterfly knot at hocks then same side front leg do a loopty loop and in the event the hog needs to move just release the loop and tie to back free leg to let it stretch. works for me but im a kill type of person only tied a handful

good 3/8 cord ... had a pair of hobbles for two days ... i somehow got them onto a good boar about 225 an COULD NOT get them off sooo i took my trusty case knife to em an that was the last time i'll use a pair lol ...

you better keep that trusty case knife close for that 3/8 cord too! Lol

 I use 3/8 too but I use a glow in the dark not cuz its what I wanted but the only color they have. But it is a paracord but has a stretchier layer outside it. Its like 4 bucks at harbor freight. We use like 3 ft sections 2 per hog. Fold it in half and wrap around front leg run the side that is the ends through the looped end and pull tight. Then run it around the back leg split the ends around and tie it around itself. Works well for us  and that stretchy layer outside tie paracord somehow kept then from losing their feet

Thats funny man. I used the same thing for 12 years or better. never had one get loose and easier on the feet. Keeps easy in the back pocket and can get wet . Now i don't have the connection and have Hobbles from Ugly dog ranch and love them. Best hobbles i have ever seen or used. Tried a few before them and was not impressed. Really easy on the feet and holds great.
