Post by: lcboarstoppers on April 18, 2012, 04:59:51 pm
My buddy wants to know if leaving ur dog running loose or keeping them on a chain makes a difference in the way they hunt???

If they have a lot of hunt to them, their life expectancy may not be real long left running loose.

i keep my chit eaters on a chain because they depend on me to feed, water, and clean up their dog houses it builds a better bond to me vs them running lose and doing for themselves. I've also noticed since they have been on a chain that they realize its time to hunt when there off... no harm of messing the dog up.

a good dog will get stolen or run over or shot if running loose...it is best to keep him in a kennel or chain...but taking the dog out to pastures and woods and exposing him to strange people and livestock will make him a better dog...put him in a bay pen a couple times and hunt him...that's how to make a good dog better...

Mine don't leave the kennels or chains either unless I'm loading up but he has them in a big backyard chain linked in and wasn't sure about chaining them because of all the neighbors frowning on that in the city unless it made a difference in their hunt..

Same here, i open the kennels and drop the chains the dogs run straight to the truck and either load up in the bed or wait for me if the tail gate isn't down, in fact I got one real skidish dog that you can catch, but when that tailgate goes down he is the first in and the first out.

X3, except the lay down part, mine are in the truck bouncing off the bed rails till I snap them in and hit the road.

most of my pups get to run loose until they start chasin the goats and bayn them. most curs ive been around dont have an off button.once they get started on something and like it you better put them on a chain or in a kennel.out of about 50 to 60 cur pups ive raised i have had one that you could leave running loose, and im always lookn for him to mess up. if they have any hound like plot, walker  its double trouble lol
