Title: Grace for a Cause
Post by: TinyTexasCowgirl on May 07, 2012, 10:13:58 am
Well I just got the official word, Grace and I will be testing for our therapy dog liscense on Saturday in Texarkana. I've been hammering on her skills pretty hard the last few days and am confident we will do well but still a little nervous. This certification would allow her to go into hospitals, nursing homes, and places like those to interact with people who spend months staring at the same walls. Wish us luck.

We had a therapy dog in Iraq.  He held SFC rank and out ranked us all  ;D. He was a fat black lab that was brought around for us to pet and was suppose to relieve tension and stress.  Towards the end of our deployment, they made him start a weight loss program.  You'd see him in the gym on the treadmill hating life.  True story, name was SFC Zeke.

Hitemhard, I plan on certifying Pete, my 1/2 pit 1/2 heeler when he is old enough, I can't think of a better way to advocate that aggression is not the pit bull breed standard.

BA I've heard that they have dogs in the military, but I didn't realize that they weren't all scent or protection type dogs. Do soldiers actually take advantage of being able I hug and pet on one, or do most see it as useless? I would think that most men would laugh at the thought of just sitting and pettin one for the hell of it?

I can imagine that he did hate life, but he will thank them later when he can still walk comfortably lol

Today is the big day. Grace and I are 2 hours from our test. I'm so nervous.

Y'all say a BUNCH of prayers for my momma and her cocker spaniel. Woody has decided that he does not know how to sit, or lie down. Ugh
