Post by: Swine-Stalker on May 30, 2012, 10:45:12 pm
Anyone watch it? That was some good tv... The wife and kids left me alone for 2 hours all three days... It was well worth it!

I really enjoyed what little I saw.  I'm going to wait to buy it when it comes out.  They followed the history of the actual feud pretty good from what I've read on it which most tv don't do nowadays.

The one thing about it though, those people lived hard back then and they still do to this day.  Nothing like they use to by no means, but it's a hard life in those hills for some and it makes some tough people.

Ba, yur right, my family is from those same hills. It made some tough, mean people. Though it has changed a lot, the same mentality is still there. My grandparents were raised in coal camps there and tho there was LAW it was normally not close at hand. My grandfather Elmo killed several men and never did any prison time. One of his sons just killed a man about 7 years ago. Like I said its still there

My mom lived there until she was a teenager and she didn't have electricity until she was 12 years old. Its pretty cool to listen to how much different things were just a short time ago

i watched it and didnt care too much for it. Ole kevin was pretty good as usual but I guess the movie sticking close to the facts made it kinda boring. I was hoping for dancing with wolves and got something way different.  ;D

For a History Channel movie I thought it was pretty well done...  Good enough to watch the re-runs...

I was pullin for the Hatfields..  ;)

I liked it. Didn't miss a minute. They did follow close to what history recorded and that is a whole lot of deaths to squeaze into one film. The movie pretty much focused on who killed who and the circumstances surrounding their deaths. They could have put more daily events in the movie but it would have been much longer.

For a History Channel movie I thought it was pretty well done...  Good enough to watch the re-runs...

I was pullin for the Hatfields..  ;)

x2...on the Hatfield's...I watched it all and it was an learning experience for sure...I was thinking about starting a thread on shell shock, toxic shock syndrome, and the latest... post traumatic stress syndrome...all three are the same...was planning on it for Memorial day weekend but changed my mind...

Of course can't believe everything on TV because sometimes it is exaggerated for the ratings...but I went back and googled it and it pretty much had the same script...if we can believe that too...

I used to think it was the Hatfield's that started the crap...but it seems the McCoys started it and the Hayfield's had to retaliate to defend themselves...escalated from there...

I believe that if Randall McCoy was taken out early on then all this may never have happened...Randall McCoy probably suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome which can make some people violent...but it depends on how bad there stress was during war...It progresses at different rates according to different type of personalities as well as how bad the stress was and for how long...It can reach to a point where there si no cure according to some psychiatric experts in that field...

Talking about honoring the fallen soldiers on memorial day...we should also include those with the Post Traumatic Stress disorder as well as soldiers who were wounded...but then it should include all that serve honorably...I knew of some from the Vietnam era that became somewhat violent, alcoholics, and some couldn't sleep but a few minutes at a time even 15 years later...but the ones I am talking about usually had a tough job..like machine gunners out of a helicopter etc.etc. or on the ground in the front lines...also have a lot of friends that had to deal with this disorder for a good while before they overcame it...and the divorce rate was pretty high with these soldiers...but you can be a civilian and suffer the same...even kids....

sorry about the ramblings...but I do believe that Post traumatic stress played a factor with the McCoys and Hatfield's...it just escalated from there...

I watched all 3 nights of it and enjoyed it.....what I could understand of it that is. Non-southerners trying to speak with a Southern accent is a physical impossibliity I say......you can't understand half of what they're trying to say.... >:( I'm going to have to watch it again with the closed captioning on I reckon. :-\

Great show i thought.

If I would have been the Hatfeilds and they put bountys on all my kin folks there would have been some hiding going on but I would have went on the offense real quick . That bounty hunter Bad Frank would have been top on my list and he would have never seen it coming from 350 yards on top of a hill right between the eyes.    The Hatfeilds lost a lot of family members by trying to hide out and wait after they killed Jim Vance Hatfeilds brother and shot his son Cap that would have been it I would have been ambushing and way laying them bounty hunters out from the hills never see it coming .  O and that lawyer Perry Cline that McCoy had would have been right on the top of the list behind Bad Frank .  Sometimes its better to take the fight to them rather than try to hide it out!

well according to the movie, them 3 mc coy boys were kidnapped from the law and then murdered with out a trail and jury. yes them 3 in the wrong for killing an innocent man, but when they had been arrested and then kidnapped, the hattfields were wrong as 2 boys fornicating with each other. the crime might have been commited on the wv side and fled to the kentuckey side, but the hattfiled judge had no extridition warrent and then pointed and threatened the sherrif. the hattfields according to the movie started the fued by the theft of the pig.

I loved the show and demanded peace and quiet in the house while it was on. Funny story and maybe it was just coincidence but I used to work with a guy named MCcoy. He lived on the same road all his life and prolly never said a foul word to anyone. Very pleasant man. He accidentally backed a trailer into his new neighbors mailbox. The new neighbor was a hatfield and talked ugly to McCoy for the accident. He was forever a changed man and spent free time plotting on " the daddy didn't marry mommy across the road". The feud almost resurrected itself in north Louisiana!! LOL. Of course it didn't help that hatfield was a yankee :o

I agree...

I was thinking taking out Randall McCoy...if he were taken out all this might have died out...but next would have been Bad Frank and his cronies...

and like you said...sometimes the best defense is a good offense...

oh and for icing on the cake, ole' anes hatfiled was a deserter. he just up and leaves his friends and fellow soldiers during war, goes home and makes a better life for himself, while his friend is in a yankie pow camp. aint no way i would be a supporter of desertion

i did 13yrs of military service and there have mulitiple times when i saw a loosing battle, deployed and stateside, but i didnt desert and leave the military. i was getting motared 1 day and could see the men and tube, but was told to hold on and try not and get hit. 2 more rounds and my tower would have been dialed in and the 3rd round woulda hit. i didnt pack my bag and leave, nor did i say screw it when i was on leave and choose not to go back over. desertion back then was a killing offence, and which he almost got killed for it, but his friend chose not to pull the trigger. common sence aint to common, less now than back then, but again his pig was stolen, which took food out of the mc coy's family mouth. 2 wrong dont make a right, except in math and english. i was married to a mccoy, probably NO relation to the mccoys up there so there is no favoratism, key word is WAS. desertion and condoning desertion is pathetic and sorry. i would enjoy seeing this country fall and anarchy set in and a battle ensue to gain control back from our government, then see how many die from desertion. we all have had to make sacrafices, but i guess for some, as long as they are not making the sacrafice, then its ok.
