Title: SNAKES
Post by: L3Outdoors on April 25, 2009, 12:10:39 pm
Three in a day and a night, It started yesterday before we went hunting. My next door neighbor came driving in my drive way asking me if I could come shoot a rattler out of her garden, then last night while hunting we had a FNG with us on his second trip with dogs came about six inches from stepping on a five foot rattler when I stopped him mid stride before he could put his foot down. Then this morning while I am trying to sleep after finishing hunting at 7am my female Pit Sahara is barking like crazy so I walk out side and Riddick and Sahara where looking a the back porch like it was on fire. There he was about four feet away from the dogs curled up rattling his head off on the back step of my concrete porch. This was less than a hour ago and as far as I can tell nether one got bit but I am watching them close for any signs of a bite. Lucky Lucky Lucky any way ya put it.

i've had 2 water mocassins since all the rain we've had....  i have a feeling they're gonna be pretty bad this year.  i've never had water mocassins at the house this early in the year, they're usually not around til mid-May or June.

Every one of these snakes was killed around water. My neighbors snake was under the sprinkler, and the snake in the dog pin was very close to the water facet that was leaking a little, and the snake the new hunter almost stepped on was on a tank dam.

i've had another water mocassin in the yard, and my wife says she saw a copper head by the carport but i didn't see it so i can't comment on that.   i'm a little nervous about this year being i got 2 little ones running around.

i've killed all 3 of the water mocassins but i just ain't never seen em this thick around my house.  the back patch is shredded and my yard is kept cut.

i haven't had any mice or rat problems cause i bait outside for em... ???  anyone got any suggestions to keep em away??

I've heard sulfur, but I've never used it because of the smell...lol

I may change my mind, I saw a snake by my back fence yesterday, and the day before my american bulldog killed a baby snake.  They are bad this year.

Took my dogs a few weeks ago to get a vaccine for rattlesnakes. I have never had a problem but wanted to be safe.

take moth balls and blend them up then mix with sulfur and put around the house just puur like u would fire ant killer and that should keep them away.

I sure hope all of y'all talking about snakes are in Texas! I'm in Oklahoma and I don't like snakes either but if my hunting partner caddo co. hog dog sees all y'all talking about how bad the snakes are I won't get him out of the house until there is snow on the ground. Ha ha but seriously I hope everyone and there dogs stay unbit!

Just killed another one in the dog pin. Had bought the snake away today but had not put it out yet. Killed snake checked all dogs no bites again lucky lucky lucky, put out snake away as I was taking the dead snake out of the pin. I will say this 45 ACP snake shot is the cats meow. Shot the snake from 30 ft and it rolled him good.
