Post by: sfboarbuster on June 17, 2012, 09:52:18 pm One of my buddies has a monkey like that, used to run loose in the house. Saw the sunuvabitch rape a cat one day, he bit a few people, tore some dogs slap up. He is confined to a big gazebo lookin cage nowadays. We terrorize him! We went out there one day and kept feeding him popsicles, he at about 10 of em, he went crazy, shivering, beating his head on the wall. He must've had a pretty bad case of brain freeze!

... I grew up around a bunch of sho-e-nuff city folk... growing up on the coast of west central Florida, I did not have access to a lot of hunting land as a kid... I grew up on the water, fishing, diving, spearfishing... but I always had an "itch" to hunt on land thanks to my grandfather whom introduced me to gun/archery hunting in Ohio early on... ... to appease my desire to hunt, I sought out all viable hunting opportunities that one could possibly imagine... ;) ;D ... I was a country boy trapped in a "airy-fairy, ever-more civilized world"... the christian school I went to was filled with the spawn of wealthy parents that could not have tied a hook to a line to save their own life lol... so... the handful of freinds that were brave enough to join me in my hunting adventures were there more for the show than to actually join in themself lol... ... I began my hunting carreer laying waste to the local squirrel population haha ;D I killed THOUSANDS of the bushy-tailed little rats... A school-mate's dad owned an avacado grove and eagerly allowed me to clean it out hahaha... I quickly learned the joy of efficiency/production of kill ;D ... I further honed my skills with my "walmart-pellet gun" to the point that I could ride my bicycle(gun wrapped in a towel, layed across my handlebars lol ;D) into a town park, and be peddaling my ass back out before the first tree-hugger had a clue there were no longer any squirrels in the vicinity hahaha... I was a ruthless little baystard in my youth lol... ;D ... from squirrels I moved on to hunting raccoons in the tidal mangrove swamps... "big game" to me lol... I even finally managed to kill a big bobcat with my pellet gun... still smile about that day hahaha... ;D ... I soon was known as a "hunter" in my circle lol, and... as such.... rolleyes ;D.... my friends would always notify me of any "exotic" opportunities that arose... ... one such day... ;D ... had a friend come to me in school and tell me a far-fetched story about "monkeys" that were occasionally seen in the trees of his father's "country-club-golf course" lol... I scoffed at the notion... but he was quite persistant in that they did indeed exist... ... wasn't long, and I had an expedition plan laid out... ;D We may have been 11 or 12 at the time... we all met up on bikes just outside the golf course... after sighting in one last time, we began our "approach" ... ;D ... at a pivotal point, I noted that we would have to cross one last vast expanse to reach our "target area"... "brilliantly", I came up with the plan to "stash" our pellet guns under some bushes while we did a "surveilance pass" of the mark lol... INDEED... there were monkeys... I was PUMPED ;D ;D ;D ... we "non-chalantly" sped walk back across the field to be greeted by a convoy of golfcarts, manned by old, WW2 vets that had intercepted our "stalk attemp" , found our weapons cache, and promptly confiscated them hahaha... those old buggers were SO proud hahaha... they had all of our BB guns laid out on the putting green... "breeches open" lol... and just sat, staring silently, as we walked up... scared the absolute chit out of us hahahaha :o ;D ... they asked us what we were doing... and I said, "just lookin' for a squirrel to shoot"... ;D ... old baystards threatened to call the police but eventually let us get our guns and leave(less ammo lol)... ... I went back alone a week later and got my damn spider monkey... ;) ;D Title: Re: Only in Florida.... Post by: firemedic on June 17, 2012, 10:29:48 pm Ya'll need a monkey season Noah,.....I really didn't realize that there's that many of them down there......anybody's dogs ever tree one that you know of?

Title: Re: Only in Florida.... Post by: RyanTBH on June 18, 2012, 08:54:01 am Monkeys in FL huh? That's wild... FL sure seems to be going wild here lately, esspecially with all the snakes, and snake head fish, and now monkeys... LOL!
Title: Re: Only in Florida.... Post by: sfboarbuster on June 18, 2012, 10:01:45 am The monkeys around silver springs have been there since the 30's. There was a jungle cruise back in the day where you took a paddle boat down the river, the man who owned it let them go, and they've been there ever since.
Noah, my mom had one of those spider monkeys. She caught a baby one in a park in west palm beach back in the 70's. She had it for a while til she tried to give it a bath and it tore her up! Title: Re: Only in Florida.... Post by: PLP on June 18, 2012, 10:46:01 am I always wanted to have one mounted for my living room.. I'm thinking I might dress him in some Fubu jeans, high tops, swap meet Tommy Hilfiger shirt and a flat bill ball cap........with the tag still on it. :o
Title: Re: Only in Florida.... Post by: leifbarnes on June 18, 2012, 10:49:37 am Not sure what I would do if I saw a monkey in the wild. We have them (Snow Monkeys) in Texas too!

Post by: landshark on June 18, 2012, 07:42:45 pm Our club is bordered by the river about 12 miles from silver springs and those monkeys are all over it. The FWC said I could kill them on private property because they are non-native species. A buddy of mine killed two of them and has them mounted with little boxing gloves in a boxing ring.
Title: Re: Only in Florida.... Post by: curdog87 on June 18, 2012, 09:07:57 pm Hey Noah we have some property right there in micanopy west of the GOOD ole truck stop and there is a guy that has some exotic deer and what not. Well we were gettin ready for deer season a couple years ago and one of the FWC officers rolled up and said that a handful of some monkeys got loose from this guys pen. He told us to straight up shoot the monkeys if we saw them. Well we never saw any but we did rope a little gazelle doe outa ole cj5 that belonged to him. The funny thing about it the picture Lee posted is the same kinda of monkeys that got loose.

Post by: hogaholicswife on June 19, 2012, 09:47:29 am There are elk in Brighton and there used to be monkeys that escaped from Gatorade way back when in Palmdale, a circus train wrecked close to Brighton when my mom lived there and they lost some elephants....they were rogue until their keeper showed up then shesaid they gentled right down.
If you want to see exotics you need to travel South to the Palm Beach / Forward County line south to Miami and Monroe Counties....you ain't seen nothing....there was a 5 ft iguana sunning on the Turnpike a while back and some guys I worked with killed a huge python by the Everglades park and I found one about 6 ft dead on the road after the freeze. There are cats and critters that no one know about down there lol Title: Re: Only in Florida....
