It has come to my attention a certain scammer started a rumor that he bought us out and owned "Saltydog Catahoulas". That was wrong, and a bold faced lie. We are alive and well near Shawnee, Oklahoma, and have been breeding catahoulas for over 23 years now, and have dogs world wide. Our dogs get better and better each year. Come to the source, not the scammers, please.

I searched saltydog and never seen anything about ya'll on here. Welcome to the site. Better be careful ole twilbanks is pretty hard on them spotted creature. ;D

I've hunted with a couple salty dog cats one is one of the nicest dogs I've hunted behind other than chances dogs !!

Sorry fellas, I'm not much of a forum guy. At this point, I just wanted to address the "rumor issue"---we are still alive and well.

I will tell you this about the dogs we raise, we are interested in dogs that are excelling in the woods, and we breed with that in mind. I do keep an eye open for the pups that would make someone a fine baypen prospect. But the majority of what we raise are pretty gritty. I have not been in the baypen scene for 15 years probably. Did that, got the tee-shirt, moved on.

This is our approach to breeding catahoulas--------

 1) We will not breed any dog that does not go to livestock, (particularly hogs)---I want my dogs to put a mouth on and shut down a hog--I like grit.

2) Next, we want disposition--I prefer dogs that are not skittish or people agressive(not to be confused with natural wariness and protecting it's territory from strangers), I want my dogs to bond well with the folks that feed them.

3)Next, I want conformation--for speed and toughness and plenty of wind and longevity. I like my dogs in the 60-85 lb range. I feel if a dog is put together right, he will not only last through the day, but will last for years. I want athletes.

4)  The last thing we look for is color--this is when I am not so color-blind-when I have the above package, then color is the icing on the cake. If all was equal, pretty dog does not eat anymore than an ugly dog.

But then again, I believe most breeders are looking for these qualities too. If a dog does what you want, then that's a good dog, right?

If a dog does it right consistently then yes sir you are correct

Yep, I hunt my dogs as well as hunt with my customers who own saltydogs. I listen to what they say about them, good or bad. I listen to what they say---doesn't mean I always agree. My dogs can not cure "pilot error", they just hunt and wreck hogs.  It's "genetic art" to rise above mediocracy. Saltydog

That "counterfit" deal stretches much further than just catahoulas. I've seen it in almost all breeds--breeding down instead of up and compromising the integrity of what their dogs SHOULD do. Always check your bloodlines. Cull hard. As I say about different catahoula bloodlines, they sure ain't created equal. Saltydog

Dude, 99% of the people on here love to jack with people, and very few have a mind to mouth filter, so take everything said with a grain of salt, and if you have a major issue with anything or anyone, use PMs. The moderators ain't scared to do a little culling of their own.

Yep, I'm a little behind in that department. I don't really worry about it much, as we are sold out really quick anymore. But your right, I need to update.

Both. I have sold Saltydogs for over 22 years. 90% are sold to hoghunters. I hunt my dogs as well as evaluate the feedback I get from trusted customers. I pretty much know what to expect out of my bloodlines, and can better serve the needs of most hunters, though most represent different styles of hunting.

I was probably the Brandon you were talking about, I still have to find my paperwork and call you back I had it saved in my laptop and it amazingly lost it for me, I'm still looking for my paper copys.

so how do your dogs hunt salty? short, deep, lots of bottom, no bottom... etc....

Some people are easily satisfied, so their opinions are useless  ;)

Can you just answer the question on how your dogs "on average" hunt. Might give you some new customers.

I don't how that is grilling you? We're all here to talk dogs and hogs.

They are cats so thats bout enough said lots of drive smart dogs n easily trained to fit the owner.  Sorry couldn't help but throw that in for the yella dog lovers.  Man may have more to do then type give him a call if your really interested seems like a nice enough feller.

That's the deal. This website makes it extremely easy to talk dogs and hogs ALL DAY. My job doesn't allow me and neither does life to be on the phone for two or three hours at a time when I can jump back and forth talking off the Internet.  It's a great tool and its easy.

I don't see the problem in telling us about the dogs.  You came on a public forum to tell us you had dogs and when someone asks you about them you don't wanna talk about them, except to say you're still raising and selling em.

Mike, are you condoning topic drift? I'd appreciate folks stay on topic of my thread. If I'm out of line, go ahead and deleate this thread of mine.  Their questions have nothing to do with the topic at hand. As I said, they are free to contact me privately or they can start their own thread if this thread does not interest them, and I will respectfully stay on ThEIR topic and answer what ever questions they might have for me. I have enough saavy to tell when there is a "mines bigger/better than yours" fight is at hand. I do not care to be involved in such "contest". My dogs speak for themselves about their ability.

Are you really concerned with topic drift, really you've got to be the only guy who cares about someone talking about something besides you being in business. The sad thing is we are talking about YOUR dogs.  This thread has played itself out anyways, so "topic drift" ain't a big concern.

Your dogs do not speak for themselves because I've never heard of them.  I'm sure they're good, but if I knew about them I wouldn't of had to ask about them in the first place.  I'd like to learn about them and so would a few others.  What's the big deal?
