Post by: Central Tx on July 09, 2012, 01:06:18 am just got dome watching it also.............my family friend jerry campbell has hunted lions in west texas and new mexico and i think he still has a few lion dogs not sure how he trains them to be so good but ill try to ask him about them and ask him how he trains them but i know it takes a few days sometimes weeks to tree one like they said on the sportsman channel

Post by: LionandBoarHunter on July 09, 2012, 12:06:26 pm As for training pups me and my grandad caught wild house cats doused them down with water and squirted lion piss on them and let the pups run them that got them started the fastest for us. Then put them with the old dogs and see what they were made of!! I also run bobcats with my hounds because there is not enough mountains lion in my area to have straight lion dogs .

It is better to train a dog on cats first and then go to stinkier animals as they learn to really grub out the tracks, cats leave by far less scent than hogs and bear.
