Title: Lost dog
Post by: justincorbell on July 27, 2012, 04:20:28 am
Lost my catchdog last night 2miles west of nome texas off hwy90. We had a split bay, Spoon had a hog bayed solo and so did smoke, smoke was farthest out so we went to spoon. I had lead him in to 20yds and cut him loose, the bay broke either right when he got there or just before and spoon never got him stopped again. He is wearing an uglydog catchvest and collar both with my info. Please call or text anytime day or night with info 409-926-7505

I'll tell you one thing that has helped our collars and thats taking them apart and cleaning the contacts with alcohol and a swab. Seems to work pretty good. Good luck bro!

It's a long shot but it worked for me once. I had a sound byte of a pig squealing on my I phone. We played it over the speakers on my ranger. I was watching a coyote slipping up a tree line toward me when he stopped and looked. When I turned to see what had him stopped it was my catch dog.......still wearing the dc 40 with the dead battery LOL. Good luck my man

I just got back from the property about 20 minutes ago, still no luck and no trace of him, the bowl of food i left for him hadn't been touched and it doesn't look like he has been back. Im goin back this evening with a sow i've got at the house and a bunch of my dogs. I figure if he's around he should come flying to the bay and if nothing else it'll be good practice for my pups.

If he doesn't show by tonight then im afraid im goin to be on a recovery mission. The odd's are stacked against him pretty bad, he is in some big hog and gator country in full cut gear with temps nearing 100 in the daytime, not to mention railroad tracks and hwy90 less than 1/2 a mile from where he was lost. Im not givin up on his stubborn ass yet but it ain't lpokin to good........such is the life of a bulldog i reckon.

I've only had him a couple months (he was given to me by Mr. James and Mrs. Dinah) Due to them upgrading lol. One upside to the story is that i did breed him to my female so there will be a buncha little bullets runnin around soon enough.

If ya'll got the time send one up for that poor ol devil, im sure he could use it.

Thanks for all the well wishes!

Yes, it was his first time on the place. Hopefully the sow trick will work out, it's about the only idea i've got left.

Hope you find your dog. That's one fine looking bulldog. I lost one for three days about two months ago but finally found him. My Garmin quit on me so I fill your pain with that. If you don't find your dog I have a nice female you can have. She needs a job. Hope you find yours though.

Sorry but i disagree with you, i hunt 2-3 a week every week, in the summer time late a night...... 74 degrees is not to hot for my dogs, if it was i wouldn't own em, bottom line.

put up flyers is the only thing i can think of a guy i hunt with lost his catch dog for 6 weeks once and some people found him at a huntin camp and call because they seen the flyer in town. i sure hope you find your dog man. i lost one of mine for three days one time so i know how your feelin just keep your head up and dont give up you will find him.

Don't give up on him, had the same thing happen a while back, split bays, second one broke about when the cd's got there, stopped him again after a ways, but my cd never made it there, looked for three days, called everywhere and nothin. 6 days later got the call from two places over. Somehow he made it thru the high fence about a mile away. When I went to get him he was shredded. 7 cuts with the biggest being about 9 inches. So you never know, I sure hope you find him.

Unfortunentaly this is being my thought as well. Im still lookin but nothing so far, like i said about the vest, cut collar and regular collar all have my info so if he is found there is no excuse for me not to get a call but now days it seems luke honest ppl are harder to come by.

Jon i've tried just about everything but that, i was hopin i wouldn't have to but im gonna bring my sow out there this evening with my pups to work em, purebreed posted a site with mp3 sounds of hogs squealing so i blared that for over 30 minutes......no luck though.

I appreciate the offers to come help look but i have to decline, i got permission to look for him on 1 adjacent piece of property but not on the other 2 and was told that I am the only one to cross the fence......better than nothing I suppose. I am pretty sure he is no longer in the immediate area, i've been back to the property over a 15x's since I lost him. The food/water I left still hasn't been touched and there are zero fresh dog tracks. Goin back again this evening, wish me luck.

It's not too hot to hunt at night. Especially when there are plenty of water sources around for the dogs to get in. Been hunting in the summer for years. Dogs can be lost any time of the year. Justin has plenty of sense and knows what he is doing. Don't be so quick to judge.

well i see nothing wrong with hunting in the summer...my dogs are well conditioned and im out there walking/running with my dogs. i know my dogs and they know me..my cd that i lost for 6 days was in full gear..this was not long ago...the dog will cool himself off. dogs are smart...if he is too hot or hurt he will lay up and come out when he feels is right. dont give up on him justin!

I dont want to argue but if handle is what you guys had you wouldnt be looking for your dog for days and trying every trick in the book to get him , I hope you find him  and are able to read him better on the next go around ,  I work all night pouring concrete in the summer and have no time to hunt , but my dogs are exercised on sundays and saterdays if im not working , but my dogs have enought sense to return back to us , and as for the lazy comment Im far from lazy  , I run 17 + men in 50 million dollar concrete company and at the top of the food chain here , Ive had the same 2 bulldogs for 6 years and havent left them in the woods  and theyve always returned , MR. UglYDOG  how do you see a lost dog that hasent come back having handle and reading your dog ? I luv this site and luv dogs and Im not a trouble maker , I respect most peoples veiws here , justin I wish you the best with your dog and sorry for stepping on anyones toes

Most of us on here are respectful, and can agree to disagree about hunting styles, dogs, and what not, but after reading your comment made earlier about common sense I can see how some would take offense and get a defensive attitude. Justin's dog not coming back may or may not have anything to do with the handle on him. There are any number of scenarios that could have taken place to cause the dog not to come back and only one of those is heat. For all any of us know he could have gotten his gear caught up in the brush, gotten cut down even though he was wearing gear, may have tried to hunt on his own and hadn't made it back when they left and got picked up by someone that is less than honest. The what if's can go on and on. Picking at one possible cause and telling someone they lack common sense, and that's why they lost their dog more than likely isn't going to get you a positive response from said person. And not trying to be rude, but running a 50 million dollar concrete company has nothing to do with hunting, knowing your dogs can tolerate the heat, or handling dogs. We all know that you feel that you are important where ever you are, or in the business that you run, but that is completely unrelated to what's going on here, and does not translate into enough experience to be condescending about the way some of us hunt our dogs in hotter weather. We all do things differently with our dogs, but in the end they are just that, ours, and the man that owns the dog will hunt him in the manner he sees fit. So let's try and get back to the original focus of this post, this man lost his dog and we should all wish him luck in finding him. Still hoping you find him Justin.
Anthony

Do u take special care to make sure the guys have cold water? I bet you do... There are ways to hunt in this heat just like there are ways to pour mud... ;)

Title: Re: Lost dog
Post by: justincorbell on July 31, 2012, 01:47:35 pm
No luck as of this mornin. I have a feeling he has been picked up by someone. I have walked the woods all over and have not seen a single thing to make me think he is around. Not a buzzard in sight (which is a good thing!) but I fear that someone with no intentions of returnin him has found him. My name/ number and address are on not 1 but 3 seperate articles of gear on him. Ive called the vets in the area as well as the sheriff's office (they take care of animal control here) with no luck.

As far as his "handle" and all that nonsense goes.........bullet was raised and hunted by the Psenciks, if you know them then you know that their dogs listen....everytime all the time. Bullet has exceptional manners on a 4wheeler and knows and does his job well. I personally feel that he was either cut down or managed to get himself hung up if he is indeed still in the woods.

As far as me using "crazy tricks to catch him" because I lack handle with him.........that makes me laugh.

I used the pig in distress sound to draw him in not because he wouldn't come to me but because it is WAY louder than my voice and will reach him from a further distance......

I set the trap for him once again, not because I can't catch him but because I can't be out there 24hours a day! This way if he passes through the area he will see an easy meal and fresh water which Im sure sill be a welcome sight.

I brought my sow out there with my dogs to let them bay, once again not because I can't catch him, but because he, just like any other catchdog will hear a bay and haul arse to it before he will hear me hollerin for him.

Theres a dose of common sense for ya.

Thanks to everyone still tryin to help, we are goin back again this evening to continue lookin. Ill update as soon as I can.

Man I feel for you but I would say you are not using coomon sense because you are going above and beyond common sense. How many people lose a dog and look for a bit and just leave? I would be pulling every old trick out of my hat I could too. If I could think of anything you have not done I would tell you but you have done everything I can think of and then some. I sure hop that dog turns up for you. I must say that I hope someone is feeding the dog and he escapes. It bothers me that some of the land owners won't let you look for your dog. I wish I could help with something but you are doing a great job and I hope you find your dog.

I will leave Bob alone because he has appologized. We all say things that we wish we could take back. I know I do it a lot. "Mr. Uglydog" ;D Now that made me laugh so hard Coke came out my nose.

No luck as of today, we made a quick run last night and im almost positive we hit the same hog again, they bayed 20yds from where they had last thursday. The hog hit smoke and gave him a little poke then left the country on dang near the exact same track as last time. Talk about addin insult to injury lol.

I have to say again that  I appreciate every thing all of you have done to help, and thank you. At a certain point I guess I have to see it for what it is. He is deffinentaly no longer in the area, that I know for sure. I'll keep stoppin by the property due to how close it is to the house just in case.

I think he meant dirtydog...

Have you posted flyers?  I would post flyers at every gas station, wal mart, grocery store, and feed store within 20 miles. Maybe offer a small reward on the flyer.

No flyers yet but i've sent so many texts that I actually had a guy send me my own text that he got forwarded to him lol, he didn't realize it was my dog that was lost lol. Im gonna post up flyers at the gas stations n feeds stores in the area friday........unfortunentaly if someone has him its gonna take someone else to call me and say they know where he is. If someone has him then they have no intentions of calling me. My name/number and address was on the cut vest, cut collar and regular collar he was wearing at the time i lost him.

I feel for you man.  If someone has your dog and plans on keeping it, word will get out.  Eventually somebody will give up some info.  It is amazing how quickly low lifes will turn on each other for a few quick dollars.

Justin, I know you've tried just about everything you can think of but I had one disappear  on me once at my place. She was deep in the woods and wouldn't come back to the house after me searching and calling. A friend of mine suggested sitting on the truck horn for short periods of time throughout the day. After about the 5th time of sitting on the horn she came out. I never trained her to come to a horn but it worked. I sure hope you find your dog.

I appreciate it jon, i've been out there 2-3x's daily since i lost him, I am pretty much leaving it to word of mouth at this point and I'm gonna put out some flyers tomorrow because i'm about 99.9% positive he is not in the area any longer. Zero buzzards sighted in 7 days narrows down the possibilities to 2 options

1) big freakin lizard ( i've only seen 2 that coulda done it)

2) someone picked him up and ain't interested in bein honest and callin me.

Such as life I reckon......we may very well never know what happened to ol bullet but then again he could turn up any day.....time will tell.

Once again I personally want to thank everyone for all the text messages/calls/ offers to help look/ prayers/ thoughts/ advice and well wishes, ya'll are a damn fine group of folks and because of ya'll Im proud to be part of this forum.

He would have to be swimming for a alligator to get him. We live on an island surrounded by water and I've never seen an alligator catch a dog on land. I've seen a few try but the dogs are too quick and agile. I ain't saying it can never happen, just saying what I observed. Now swimming a canal or bayou a dog doesn't have a chance.

I think your second option is probably what happen. A dishonest person.   I'll tell you something else. Check your messages.

ladies and gentlemen, bullet has been found alive and well......he's no longer in the heavyweight division lol but he's gonna live!

12 hours shy of a full week in the woods!!

About an hour after my last post i got a call from a buddy saying that a friend of his spotted a red/white bulldog with a cut vest on the side of hwy90 but he couldnt catch him. I jumped outta bed (been in the woods all night lol) and took off that way. I luckily ran into and got permission  from the landowner to get him and I called his previous owners, Mr. James and Mrs. Dinah to come help call him. They showed up and we started lookin, didn't take 20minutes and all the sudden there he was!! A few pounds lighter than when I last saw him and with a few more scrapes and bruises but he will live! Lets just say he is a momma's boy in every sense of the word lol.

A big thanks is due to Mr. James and Mrs. Dinah for makin the 45 minute drive to come help and once again to all the people who have offered advice and a helping hand.

If anyone ever needs help around the bmt/winnie/houston area's please feel free to pm me or shoot me a text anytime, ill dang sure do what I can!

I do hope he turns up ok, try and be positive as hard as it is.....and I know that's not much help bud.  I have no second thoughts about giving a dog to. You are the type of person who makes hog doggers look good. Im proud to call you friend

and hunt with you. I only wish that I would have pulled my head out of my rear and thought of me going to call to him sooner. Duh, I don't

know why it never crossed my mind.

I appreciate it fella's, after this whole ordeal and talking it over with Mr. James and Mrs. Dinah I felt that his true home was with them and not me. And Im pretty sure they would say the same. I don't know if I would have found him alone. Mrs. Dinah and that dog have a crazy bond, I truely believe that he is just one of those 1 owner dogs, in the month I had him i showed 10x's the attention and gave him 10x's the time that I did with my other dogs in an attempt to get him to bond with me, I thought I had succeeded but I know now that I didn't, bottom line. I am still dumbfounded that he managed to make it seven days in this heat in full cutgear traveling over 2 miles and crossing railroad tracks and hwy90 with no major injury's. That is one tough dog.......and I look forward to catchin many more behind him in the future!
