if you want a good sticking knife that is light weight and small yet big enough to do the job then a "buck 119" will do. this knife can be used for skinning and slicing meat and the price is not to bad...most sporting goods stores like academy and walmart will carry them..

If you want a knife forever then get the "kabar US marine corps survival knife" and put a double edge on it...you can cut 2 inch saplings with it...you should be able to find it on the internet.

both of these knives are high quality and not bulky...

I like the ontario knives.

I also keep an ontario 12" machete on my 4 wheeler and I modified it to have a bowie tip in case I need to use it as a pig sticker. It is by far the best machete I have owned and it was only 20 bucks, it is made from 1095 carbon steel...

I saw Midway has a glock knife for about 21$ that looks like it could work out as a pork poker. May buy one just for a back up

that buck 119 is the best and most economical knife for all around hunting. its only 45 dollars, keeps pretty sharp and will kill any pig in the woods. I have several more impressive and more expensive knives but usually carry the buck because its light weight and the sheath has never popped open, even in dense brush.

dane, I personally use a Coldsteel SOS (too damned expensive) but had a chance to look over and see in action a knife called a Bubba Blade "Stiffie" a while ago that was very good and would probably buy one if I lost mine. Was told that it costs $40-$45 and has a special slip resistant red handle that is super. Also told made in West Texas somewhere. Although advertised as a fillet knife gets the job done and the owner uses it for cutting up the meat as well. Take a look at it.         John

Use a sharp stick and go cave man. For sticking use what you want they all do the job. I like the cheap one I got Wild Boar USA. I don't like that it is black so I painted it flourecent orange so I can find it if I drop it at night. I also have a Winchester Bowie knife it just looks too nice for me. Carry cheap stuff and it does not walk off nobody wants to steal the cheap stuff. Get nice stuff and you lose it. Just my thinking.
