Title: Saddle conditioning ? Post by: Bar W on July 29, 2012, 12:18:43 pm Needed an extra saddle for elk season so I borrowed one from a buddy. I need to recondition the leather I've cleaned it and worked neatsfootoil into it a couple times. Anyone have any other tricks to soften up the leather and recondition it?

I like to set the saddle out in the sun so it will get hot and the pores in the leather open up. You can also use a hair dryer to heat the leather. I use a paint sprayer to spray it on. It pushes the oil into the leather and is faster than rubbing it on. Hope this helps.

Title: Re: Saddle conditioning ? Post by: ked on July 29, 2012, 05:01:28 pm Soak it with water, use saddle soap and clean it good. The water will open the pours of the leather. Let it almost dry outside then use Lexol.
Neatsfoot oil is just that "oil" it ill soften but dry leatther will just soften but stl crack when ya bend it. Lexol is leather conditioner and will soften and condition the leather while oiling it. |
