Do yall prefer a dog that is straight bay or a dog that will catch when a catch dog does. I have one that will bay until the hog tries to break then hell catch or when another dog gets there hell catch

Mine with try to catch without catchdog. I like em to catch with catchdog...make it a lot easier on watchdog. But

I can't remember a time when the catchdog caught and the others didn't follow suit, and that goes for pretty much everyone i've hunted withs dogs as well.

X2 - in the same breath I would also say it would be nice if the strike dog, as soon as you get the hog under control would disengage and roll out on its own and find the hogs that broke. I know some of you boys have dogs like that and I envy you. Mine you always have to beat off w/ a stick (JK) and tie up to keep them off the hog till its loaded up or dead.

We have same problem it's like having 7 catchdogs ..have to tie em up to trees . Ya those rollers are hard to come by I've hunted with one and she would roll out when catchdogs got there ...when we got to catchdogs she had another one already based.

By God! I want a dog like that. Ive spent what I consider big money on a dog 1 time. A long time ago. If I could get a dog like that now I would really be tempted.

One of my strike dogs will hit as soon as catch dog gets ther and my gyp will roll off on other hogs if they are ther. My male is hardheaded like no other dog. Not only do u have to tie him up but have to lead him away from a dead or tied hog. But i like for em to catch with the catch dog but mine will catch the smaller hogs without my catch dog and i like that bc its way easier than gettin a catch dog off a small hog

i like too have all my dogs catch with my catch dog cuz only have one catch dog and on big hogs i like him to have help till i can flip and hobble are kill.... so i say i like to have all dogs help the pack

Rough dogs are the way to go... Keep the chase under 500 yards... I like for the bay dogs to shut them down and catch and if they need help the turn the bull dog loose... Gotta love yellow dogs....

I don't use a catch dog. My trail dogs find , bay and catch

How many dogs do yall take at a time and is there a certain way yall make em rough or do they decide on there own

i hunt 1 to 3 dogs usally but some times more , they decide to be rough by there self but usally get rougher with other dogs ,

i got a catahoula that will catch anything 100 pounds an under an with another dog he will catch bigger hogs , then i got a pup that will bay by him self but get as rough as watever dog he is hunted with ,

i like all the dogs to catch when CD does holds the hog better

Do yall run vests on the bay fogs that do catch

We just run cut collars but I know some guys do...after deer season I probably will invest in some good vest from p&p.

i run 2 bay dogs 2rcd and vest up just my one pit plott cuz she is rough as a corncob and just collares on bay dogs and winter will run bay vest on the bay dogs when it cools off....

A mixture of both is best. We hunt one cd usually so it's nice to have one or two rough dogs on the ground that you know are gonna sit back in the other ear when we go to catch the hog. Some of our dogs will roll out and leave the hog as soon as we show up to a bay( if there are a good number of dogs there). They won't just leave if they are the only one or two bayed. Some will roll out once cd hits. And the rest will roll off when the hog gets flipped.

So best of both worlds is my answer
