Title: Re: garmin 220 problems Post by: hogdog9 on August 10, 2012, 08:33:49 am Find someone with another garmin unit and see if they can pick you collar up. I had the exact same problem when i first got mine and i had the other guy with me to add the collar to his unit and it picked up just fine and tracked the collar just fine so i called garmin and they said to sent the unit back in and they would give me another one. there was a malfunction with the unit
Title: Re: garmin 220 problems Post by: firemedic on August 10, 2012, 08:41:23 am More than likely it's the antenna on the collar. I have 2 DC40s and had to replace the antennas on both. Get some of those tuff skin ones from Conkey's supply.....they also have 'em on ebay. Good folks to deal with.
Title: Re: garmin 220 problems Post by: Beaucephus on August 10, 2012, 10:29:35 am Try changing the communication setting for the collar on the garmin. Usually fixes my new collars.
Title: Re: garmin 220 problems Post by: Melonhead on August 10, 2012, 12:18:24 pm A tiny wire for the antenna connector inside the 220, breaks and causes just what your talking about.
My cousins did it - I soldered a heavier guage wire in its place, works perfect now. When you see how tiny that wire is - your gonna think the computer geeks who made that thing, had a brain fart. Title: Re: garmin 220 problems Post by: dane on August 10, 2012, 04:01:15 pm They might need updated. My local feed store has the program to update. I had same problem and mine works fine now. Now my collars blink 3 times. Its suppose to be new program. Good luck
Title: Re: garmin 220 problems Post by: Melonhead on August 10, 2012, 09:00:11 pm We would be able to read the dog up to about 200 yards, then loose communication - on every collar.
Tried different antennas, then googled it - took it apart and found the problem. Title: Re: garmin 220 problems Post by: Swine-Stalker on August 10, 2012, 09:23:58 pm I got the "supra tough" antenna from buzzards roost and I consistently get 1.5-1.7 out of it. This is with a 320w/ long range antenna but I would think it would be about the same with a 220. Antennas are $10.00per, and no tax or shipping.
