Title: Puppy question
Post by: chads7376 on August 15, 2012, 10:19:12 pm
Got a three week old litter on the ground. The only male is injured some how. He will not use his left leg and keeps it tucked under. If you straighten it he cries. Checked it over and can't feel any definitive abnormalities, ie: breaks or swelling. He was one of the more active of the bunch up until this which I noticed this morning. He still eats good but doesnt use that leg. What are your thoughts? Give it time and see if he heals up? Take him to the vet? If so is there anything they could do?

Thanks in advance for any input.
Chad

Mom may have laid on him or his leg

Watch it closely for a day and if you don't see any improvement then you could take him to the vet not much they could do on one so young I don't think other than zest and make sure its not broken. An very possible mom coulda laid on it an made it sore

I would leave it alone, it will probably be fine. Puppy's bones are very flexible, just like childrens are. He probably just pulled a muscle.

Thanks for the replies. Just checked on em again and still no better. I will ride it out and see what happens. Kinda bummed being this was the only male.

Had the same thing happen to one of my pups. He wouldnt bear weight on it for 3 days then started limping on it for the next 4 days. Back to normal now.
