Title: Mange
Post by: southtexasff on August 19, 2012, 04:09:17 pm
I searched on this site for it but couldn't find anything that would help me.  I got a gyp that has some type of mange or mite that seems to be making her itch.  I noticed she is scratching the side of her front legs till they are open sores.  She seems to be loosing her hair on her but.  She has a weird smell to her also.  I got her kenneled with another gyp and she doesnt show any signs.  Is it mange or a skin disorder?  I have the dogs on a wooden deck in the kennels.  I already wormed her with Ivomec.  What kind of shampoo would be good to bathe her with?  Ive only owned this dog for about a month.

Be a good idea to separate her from the others. Also be good to get her to the vet. Anytime some type of sore or skin problem puts off a noticeable odor its probably infected and will not be easy to catch up to if left untreated.

Had a walker hound when I was young that had mange... I ask my grandpa what to do he told me to mix 1/2 bleach 1/2 water and scrub him down every day... With in two weeks he started to get better in 3 months he was good to go...

Burnt motor oil and sulfur works wonders and will make one slick as a ribbon. Used to put it on mine in the spring to help shed winter coat.

1/2 cc of ivomec orally for 7 days, make sure the dog has been regularly treated for heart worm and happy jacks spray,. Regular ivomec  NOT IVOMEC PLUS.
