Title: Re: Fatting up a hog Post by: chads7376 on August 22, 2012, 08:08:26 pm lol they dont fattin up Have to disagree. I have two feral females about a year and a half old and three half hamp half feral four month old shoats that are plenty plump. I feed the hog feed and 12%(mixed 50/50) from TSC and any and every table scrap and anything that expires in the cabinet or fridge. Any leftovers/old/expired foods, old produce and her favorite, fish heads n guts.....she aint that big though because i dont feed her a ton but i guarantee if i upped her feed she would be plenty fat.

Title: Re: Fatting up a hog Post by: redtick23 on August 22, 2012, 10:59:10 pm a lot of time and lots of corn and range cubes wild hogs always seem to stress and fall apart the first month or so in the pen .

Title: Re: Fatting up a hog Post by: chads7376 on August 23, 2012, 07:19:36 am If you take the cost of feed to how much weight it gains it well never add up Very true! Title: Re: Re: Fatting up a hog Post by: Hogsnatchers on August 23, 2012, 10:39:36 am I feed mine allstock, some corn every couple weeks and all the scraps that accumulate. I agree though the first couple months they loose a good bit of weight. Just keep feeding and they will gain it back but you won't every get them to.gain like a domestic. Majority of the weight they will put on will be straight fat no meat at all. I worked at a slaughter house and have peeled out more than I care to remember and every wild hog that was feed out and looked decent had a layer of fat 3-5 in thick and very little meat. Domestics gain more muscle weight and actually do good wild never did.

Title: Re: Fatting up a hog Post by: djhogdogger on August 23, 2012, 05:01:44 pm I agree with worm her first. Then go to the dollar store and buy some cheap cake mix and or cheap pancake syrup and mix a little in with her feed. Thats how we always got our show hogs to eat more. Title: Re: Fatting up a hog Post by: hansonw on August 24, 2012, 08:42:36 am I feed mine a mix between 20% cubes, sweet feed, bluebarn dog feed & catfish feed. Catfish feed- the one I use is 36%.
