I have a new pup she is a BMC x McNAB she is just about 6 months been trying to get her started on hogs and for some reason this dog is testing all my training skills she works her nose on drags and chews pig feet till there is nothing left and everytime i bring a dead hog home she trys ripping it apart, in the yard when she is out with the big dogs running and playing they are all barking and play fighting like dogs do and mine are pretty rough with each other too and she is prolly about the worst and she will leg the number 2 outta the older dogs actually make them sit down just like the older dogs on a hog and bays them up like she is a pro already. So now my problem is wen i try and train her on a live pig she dont want nothing to do with it ive had a pig in a cage with the older dogs goin nuts barkin at it to see if that would pump her up and even tried letting a little hog loose with other pups and nothin, the other day i staged a hunt out on our place she was running with the other dogs when they struck all the way to the pig then just kinda stayed back not scared or anything just not doin nothin at all but sniffin around no care that there was a pig bayed up 10 ft from her. Is she to younge still or what could it be never had a pup do this to me and i train all my own dogs from pups up to finish dogs and this is a first that a dog with so much drive and skill is being a problem, any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If this pup is only 6 months old......she's a child in the dog world......don't expect too much out of her right now. Give her time and don't get rough or angry with her. You must understand that her training needs to progress in HER time frame....not yours. Patience is your friend when training a young dog...or any dog for that matter. She apparently has some potential, so don't get frustrated with her because she doesn't do what you think she should right now.....you have plenty of time.

If what u r describing is accurate then she is doing well for 6 months old. In my opinion a lot of dogs that won't hunt will run for a ways with other dogs or bark at something that the other dogs r barking at. Keep making the drags for her and teach her to track. The baying will come natural. Some dogs are loose and some rough. That part is up to them. But learning one to track and stay hooked is the key. Good luck with her and keep us posted.

X2 on the patience and time it will take to make a dog! If she's going with the drags you've been doing and paying attention to the dead hogs like u say she knows what a hog is or at least what they smell and look like... Or you shooting for a woods dog or pen dog? If a wood dog is what u want keep her in the woods on fresh tracks she will go when she's ready.. I wouldn't keep showing her a hog in a pen though I've reurnt a dog in my earlier years put a gyp in their alot and she got spoiled quick ended up being a heel knocker till she was about 2 1/2 years old... But the main thing is patience like fire medic said and don't whoop her, swing at her, kick at her just take it one step at a time and she will be okay

thanks for the help everyone i figured it was just me being impatient mostly and im really easy on her i never get mad that she isnt doin it like a pro and beat her or even raise a hand or anything like that at all im just kinda letting her do her thing right now and when she does something rite nothing but treats and good girls it was all just a wonder for me ive got a good amount of years with training dogs but am no pro and never will claim to be and always love to listen and learn new things that others may have experienced that i havent, so i will keep you guys posted on her outcome over the next months to come.
