Title: Snake bite? Post by: seokiehogcatcher on September 01, 2012, 12:27:11 am Came home tonight to find my lead bay/strike dog not looking good. His neck head and ears are swelled tremendously n the inside of his ears have some kind of clear fluid coming out. I thought maybe another dog got off chain and fought him but I got fenced in yard, all my dogs are still on chains n no battle scars on them. So im guessing snake bite, if so it was prob either water moccasin or copperhead but what do I do to treat him?

DEXTROSE is sugar, What everyone is referring to as DEX is called DEXAMETHASONE. DEXAMETHASONE is a great mild steroid that will take swelling and soreness out and is great for snake bites. Title: Re: Re: Snake bite? Post by: Hogsnatchers on September 02, 2012, 08:52:50 am YES SIR. Lol what I was reffering to was iv fluids FROM THE VET. They have them with dextrose in them. May not have been what was being refered to but it wouldn't have hurt administering it.

Title: Re: Snake bite? Post by: bob on September 05, 2012, 03:33:16 pm my dogs have been bit by copperheads several times and have swollen up huge , the first time the vet gave us this stuff called DMSO , weve found it at the feed store over the counter since but anyway you rub this over all the swelling 2 times a day , it will make the sweling go down and the dog has always came threw without a vet bill

Post by: Arkansas Frog on September 06, 2012, 09:08:25 pm Half Breed I use to use that stuff,it will eat your liver up, it is to clean parts with, but it really does help my poor knees. just don't get carried away with it. My neighbor use to get up of morning and could not hardly move his hands and fingers so he sprayed they with WD40 and they would work,he told his doc they checked his liver and it had already started to get spotty, and I know the biggest thing WD 40 is fish oil.
