Title: Good Friends re Hard To Beat ! Post by: TexasHogDogs on September 28, 2012, 11:53:13 am Kyle has been hunting with me for a long time now . I would say getting close to 10 years and over the years we have had our little spats but I can say one thing for Kyle he is about as trust worthy guy as I have ever met . If he tells you something you can pretty much take it to the bank. When I met Kyle a long time ago he was just a young en that didn't know a whole lot about dog hog hunting . I can tell you this over the years he has seen a ton of hogs with me and he has paid close attention as to how good dogs are suppose to be bred . Kyle and myself have been in some pretty big binds when it comes to hog hunting ain't much we have not encountered over he years. We have pulled hogs out of rivers, creeks , milo fields , cotton fields , corn Fields, marshes , tanks , briar thickets , catus beds , on top of big hils and down in 80 foot gulley's and can back it up with pictures and videos all of it we have caught them from 5 pounds to 350 lbs so ain't much Ole Kyle ain't seen in the last ten years. Kyle is young now mid 20's but I can promise you when it comes to breeding dogs he has paid some damn close attention and sometimes I even have to ask him how was this one bred LoL are were this one went to who and he is like a computer when it comes to how dogs are bred are who they went to just type it in and he spits it out Lol. He has hunted with my best dogs Black Jack who found 22 hogs for us in two days, Ole Blu, Little Ann, Deets, War Dog , Daisy , Steve, Mojo, Hippy , Swig, Horn , Whitey, Camo , Sis and the list goes on and on. When Kyle gets my age I hope he can look back and tell some young en the story's and times me and him have been threw together and I hope the knowledge he has learned from me will serve him well with his hog dogs in the future.
Kyle has had this dog Rocky since he was five weeks Ole and has hung on to him big time,he is from two of my best old dogs. We have only hunted Rocky four five times he was just mainly put back just in case . Well all of his bros and sisters are now gone and Rocky is the only one left also his mother one of the best Ole Cj now gone . So we pulled Rocky out of the wood pile and he will now be going to work in the woods and hopefully be bred to his half sister sometimes next year . There is not much doubt in my mind that Rocky will earn his spot being the dogs he is out of and what he done when he was a young dog . We have a couple more put back in the wood pile that we will bring out when we need them. Its just nice to know I have a really good friend that I can trust and who has never faltered are made a false move and has stood behind his word threw thick and thin over the years. Thanks Kyle for keeping your word threw thick and thin . Kyle's Rocky (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q307/TexasHogDogs/rocky1.jpg) Title: Re: Good Friends re Hard To Beat ! Title: Re: Good Friends re Hard To Beat ! Post by: Jmesonp1 on September 29, 2012, 09:19:20 pm True freinds are truely hard to find. True freinds that hunt with you are even harder to find. I have had to relocate several times in my life. Sometimes for hunting opportunities and others for work. Everytime has been extremely hard to find good people to hunt with. ill hunt with anyone once but only a select few a second time. I love my dogs. i cherish my time in the woods. And i adore my time in the woods with a person, man or woman, that appreciates both the dogs and the woods. A person who doesnt get too discouraged on a slow hunt and doesnt back down on the ones that could go bad at any moment. then the days that go perfect, doesnt try to bask in the glory but puts it all on the dogs. when you kill a big boar does your hunting partner focus first on the boar or the dogs? Are they safe, is every one here. does anyone need medical attn? Both dogs and people. Thats a good hunting partner! The cull rate on hunting partners is way higher than any breed of dog that any of us hunt yellow, spotted, brindle, blue ( am i missin someone). So.. if any of the younger guys have a hunting buddy that meets that description... well dont just give him a hug cause that would be weird but cherish what you got cause hunting alone sucks and is dangerous and GOOD freinds are hard to find!
Title: Re: Good Friends re Hard To Beat ! Post by: hogdown on September 29, 2012, 10:11:28 pm LOL REATJ81, SEE I TOLD YA'LL YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO SAY.
Title: Re: Good Friends re Hard To Beat ! Post by: reatj81 on September 29, 2012, 10:57:07 pm It is very hard to find good people to hunt with, and also have the same style of hunting! I am very fortunate to hunt with a few good guys! I have stepped out of my little circle a little bit and hunted with a couple others lately and really enjoyed it. A couple of these guys hunt different than i do but thats ok.
I do a lot of pre hunt preparation, not so much were the hogs are as planing on what dogs each hunter is bringing! By trying to hunt dogs that compliment each other it can really help the hunt be a huge success! Example not too ruff, too loose, too independent, or too many young dogs! If its going to be a cluster to hunt with someone I would rather just hunt by myself! Title: Re: Good Friends re Hard To Beat ! Post by: t-dog on September 29, 2012, 11:48:47 pm Good friends are hard to beat and thanks to hog hunting, I've made quite a few. My buddy Michael Skrhak and I went in on our first hog dog pup together as partners. We gave $20 for her and sure had to scrape to come up with ten dollars each. We still hunt together and still share the same line of dogs. JT Morgan was old enough to be my grandpa and was supposed to be mean as a snake according to all my running buddies. I drove past his place everyday and just couldn't take not stopping and talking hog hunting and dogs with someone that had hog dogs. We hunted together for years until he finally passed away. When I moved to Palestine, I met Bo Henry and his crew. Again, I can't tell you how many times we were in the woods together. Tommy Crump from Frankston is another dog man that I get to call a friend. We still talk dogs, it's just long distance now. Lee Slider and Michael Yancey from Jacksonville are to more that I will go to the woods with anyday of the week. We still keep in close contact and keep pretty close tabs on one another's families. Way out West comes down in January every year. He's old enough to be my great great grandpa, but with age comes wisdom. He's a pretty sharp tack when it comes to dogs. For his age, he's a heck of a hand in the woods. Then there's Bubba Leasman from Leander. As nice a guy as there is, do anything in the world to help ya. My buddy Edgar Glisson is 76 yrs old and I'm not sure how old Scott Basset is, but I'm gonna guess about the same as Edgar. They just left Texas to return home to Florida for the second time this year. Right here at home I've got Sid Garrison, his stepson Tyler Katz and his girlfriend Allen. There's always a laugh to be had with those guys. Even though they live on the wrong side of the river, old Jimmy (yes I meant old and not Ol' Jimmy) and KILLER KYLE have been good friends and fun to hunt with for several years. A fella never had better hunting partners than Reat and hogdown. We all know what to expect from each other and hunt the same family of dogs for the most part. I gotta get hogdown on a diet though. I couldn't understand why he was stopping so often and telling me his chest was hurting the last hunt. True enough, we had made a few steps, but he's nearly half my age. A couple days later, my little boy and I went to eat lunch with hime and his family. This cat orders a large chicken fried steak, extra gravy, and a double order of french fries. I'm just sayin.... Sorry, I got off track. I feel blessed to be able to call these guys friends. There are a ton of other people that I haven't mentioned and I hope I didn't offend anyone by not mentioning them. My hope is that I get to make many more buds just like these guys. Heck, maybe one day ol' Rueben or Halfbreed will have time to make a hunt, heck anybody for that matter. I have yet to hunt with anyone that I didn't learn something from.
