It's always something that I think about in the back of my head. It's kinda like getting in a car, there's a possibility that you're going to get into a accident but you still get in. You just have to try your hardest to have your dogs back. And by that I mean get them good vests, make it to the bay as fast as possible.

It's like any other sport, it's not IF, it's WHEN.  It's just the nature of the sport.

Some people go a long time without getting a dog hurt, but when you specifically hunt for big hogs, it's tough on the dogs.

I can promise you to much thinking are over thinking is a BAD thing ! Future things thats going to happen is going to happen no since worrying over it just be prepared and then deal with it .  Don't fret and mull on things you have no way of knowing what is going to happen it will make you sick and most the time its a lot better than what you were thinking in the first place !

The mind is a powerful thing use it to your advantage !

I always try to think positve and be prepared with a well stocked cut kit just in case.

Try thinking that something bad is going to happen to a hog.  ;)

If it does happen you wont be the 1st person it's happened to. The only thing you can do is prepare them with the correct gear and prepare your self for when it happens and be ready to DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE when the time comes.

Every time I let mine out of the pen I worry that they'll catch a rabid possum or a rank coon will get em...they never really get close enough to hogs to worry about all that mess  :D

to me i look at it like this. theres a difference in pets and dogs that hunt. i have a housedog that would make a top catchdog but i wont take her hunting just because i know the consequences that will come and in most cases it just a matter of time. but the other dogs i dont think twice about it dont get me wrong i dont like them cut up or killed because a cut up dog means alot more time doctoring and laid up and cant hunt, and a dead one means all that time in a dog seems to be a loss and have to replace it with something of less caliber usually. and its alot of other things that can happen to a dog besides a hog such as cars, alligators ,drown, heat, deer hunters everytime you load them up its a chance they might not come home. but as far as ever thinking about it nope it never crosses my mind when i load up to go.

when you have 5 or 6 generations of a line of dogs that all are or are were good dogs and you know they are more than just hog dogs because they represent all that planning and breeding...not to mention all the money and time invested over the years...then it becomes something more to think about...especially when they will not quit a track and they will go wherever the hog goes to catch it...then it is not only getting severely injured by a hog or heat exhaustion...then you have to think about the dogs getting stolen or shot on another property...
