Title: Started Female 1-1/2yrs. pics/video baying
Post by: Maver!ck on May 27, 2009, 10:34:20 pm
I have a gyp that is about 1-1/2yrs that is approx. 1/4 outlaw cur, 1/4 plot, 1/4 cat, 1/4 redtick/bluetick.
She hunts good, will run better with other dogs than by herself right now, but is really still in the started class.
My only problem is that I don’t like dogs that are open on track.  She will open up sight trailing, but even on a good hot track she’ll sound off every so often. If she is running hot behind another dog, she runs little more open trying to keep up I assume.
here is a video of her baying...she is the grown dog with orange tag baying hobbled sow. was using her to help start some pups.

I would consider a trade for a started catchdog if it's the right one.

She hasn't found her own unless you consider some pigs and sow that circle back to them.  She found the pigs and came running out with one in her mouth.  She hasn't been given the chance though really.  We have some dogs that move out, and she has been right with them on several strikes.  Hard to say on a couple of the strikes who was there first as they opened up bout the same time, I can only assume she was right behind the strike dog.  I haven't hunted her without some highpowered strike dogs to see if she'd find her own yet.  But both her mom and dad are finished strike dogs.  She does hate a hog and will bay forever.   I know with time, she should be a jam up little dog...just little mouthy  ;D

I don't no pecos or maverick but these guys post alot of pictures and video and I have not herd him say anything that would sound like a lie about this dog.Sounds to me he is shooting it pretty straight!I have seen some guys post dogs that I think were just trying to pawn some junk for money. It is hard to tell what a puppy is doing with true finished dogs around I hunted my puppies without my finshed dog the other day and they shinned! You guys might want to look at this little dog!

Thanks cward!

I won't lie to you about the dog that is for sure.  I'd give a dog away for a yard/pet before i'd try to sell it off as junk.
What's bad is that i've given away some pretty good dogs  :P
She's not finished by any means, but she shows a lot of want and she tries hard to stay with the big dogs.
I can guarantee you one thing for sure, if she didn't trail bark(which pretty much drives me nuts) she would die of old age right here on my place.  That would be after she's hunted her whole life ;)

Well a man by the name of Randy Dominy, from Georgia bred these dogs.
I can't tell you exactly what's in them down to the 1/16th and 1/32nd of this and that... or i'd have to kill ya'   :o
They are bred to be med/long range dogs that are very gritty.  Fast, silent on track and absolutely full of bottom.
I had a pair, brother and sister, and lost the male dog about 2 years ago.(he was the best male strike dog i think i've owned)
The female(mother to this gyp) along with her other littermate brother(owned by a friend of mine) and 1 other hound cross female struck some hogs in our bottom and bayed them up a little over a mile from where we turned out.  We got there and saw they had 3 big hogs (250#s or bigger) bayed next to a creek.  We were out with a 'new' bulldog that missed the catch and the hogs broke, split up and headed down the bottoms.  The hog/s would bay and break, dogs would stop them, they'd break again before we could get close.  When it was all said and done, several hours later and 6 miles from the truck(i google earthed our path) my gyp was the only one still baying the hog off in water that was knee deep as we were trying to get to her.
We had to call my brother-n-law to come pick us up off a backroad.

So needless to say, i'm a little partial to the outlaw breed.  They are smart, hard hunters and i'm breeding the momma back to a full outlaw male this week over in louisiana.

PS - in the zeke video mentioned above, the momma is the dark dog in the middle baying the snot out of this hog.  She is about 10 yrs old fyi and still bays hard and will catch on the rear end with what teeth she still has left.
