Title: Beavers? Post by: Peachcreek on November 08, 2012, 08:33:44 am A friend of mine is having a beaver problem around his tank. The suckers are cutting trees down left and right. He has been trying steel traps but is having no luck. What are some tricks to bait a beaver. He never sees the beavers so he cant shoot them. Thx
Title: Re: Beavers? Post by: KevinN on November 08, 2012, 08:56:12 am My uncle had the same issue. They were coming from creek at night and cutting trees by pond. It was about 40 yards from creek to pond. I just hunted them like deer. Found spot they were crossing... Set up blind... Hunted at night with full moon... It worked...killed a big one... May have just been lucky but it worked.

Title: Re: Beavers? Post by: Purebreedcolt on November 08, 2012, 09:04:42 am Find their slides and put a snare in it. Also if there is any low water there will be a channel they are traveling you can put a snare in.

Once I saw what it was I even opened up the trap and tried to shoo it on it's way. Like a stray dog it grew fond of me and followed me around begging for attention. Soft hearted as I am I did pet on it for a while then ran to my truck, locked the door and stepped on the gas.!! Poor thing followed me for a half mile or so.

Post by: SCHitemHard on November 16, 2012, 05:17:25 pm On a serious note.......spotlight + .22 They will sometimes swim right up to you with a spotlight. does this work with women too? Title: Re: Beavers? Post by: Tusk Hog on November 16, 2012, 06:34:14 pm They will have a burrow somewhere in a bank. Place a body grip or snare at the entrance. I had good luck with a steel trap at the edge of the water and digging a small hole into the bank, baited with an apple. Caught other critters with same set. Never used beaver caster, but it should work better.
Title: Re: Beavers? Post by: bayed hard hog dogs on November 16, 2012, 11:24:18 pm Snare snare or snare me and my family have been trapping for yrs don't make a big loop just about 6 in is best if there to big they will go through it or catch around there tail, you can get them in the fur fish and game magazine for about a buck. If you don't want to snare them you need to find the slide where there going up that's the only way thay will step ina steal trap its because thay pull there legs back when they slide down, claw marks are a good sign of where there going up put it on the side of the trail because you are trying to catch there foot not the belly. If you use a snare make a small v shape wire and pin the bottom of the snare down because some times the snare just goes over them. Hope this helps.
