Title: Good Sunday Hunt Post by: Texas_Cur on June 08, 2009, 08:11:25 pm Me and my brother (Cull buck) met up with Courtney, Aaron, and Tanner on Sunday morning. We turned the dogs loose around 5 and worked the milo fields for about two hours. The dogs only really rolled out once, dont think the hogs have really moved in there yet. We took a break by a creek, let the dogs get cooled down and hit the woods. About 30 minutes later in a big patch of woods running down a drainage ditch, Sam rolled out about 300 yards and started barking. We heard the hog break and the bay picked back up about 100 yards away with all dogs sounding off. We got about 50 yards away and we heard the bay stop and the fight start. All 4 curs were caught, and had this boar stretched out in some thick briars. Sent the bulldog in from 5 yards with a leash on to pull the hog out. It was about a 140-150# boar, we barred him and turned him loose. Fifteen minutes after that Sam threw his head up and took off into a thicket 400 yards ahead. He opened up and about 15 hogs came busting out. Sam, Peachez and Tank caught about a 40# shoat, but Reggie took off after the biggest hog I saw run out. Reggie shut it down pretty quick, sent in the bulldog and Reggie grabbed the other ear. We had about a 170-180# sow. She was some good breeding stock so we turned her loose. Called it a day and enjoyed some cold drinks.

I just got them, but man they are convenient. Title: Re: Good Sunday Hunt Post by: Noah on June 08, 2009, 09:50:46 pm Good hunt!

Title: Re: Good Sunday Hunt Post by: Bryant on June 09, 2009, 09:54:41 am Sounds like a good time!
When you get tired of 'ole Sam, I can always make room back in the kennels! I've never owned or started a dog that had as much natural ability as he does. He was an instant hog dog from day-one. Title: Re: Good Sunday Hunt Post by: cantexduck on June 09, 2009, 10:20:40 am Good hunt Yall. Didnt think Reggie and Sam could get so close....... ;D
Glad yall are getting some hogs. Title: Re: Good Sunday Hunt Post by: Cull Buck on June 09, 2009, 12:09:17 pm Bryant, I know I should never say never but you'll never get Sam back. ;D He's all business from the second he hits the ground and a pleasure to have around. He batting a 1.000 for me so far...can't get any better than that. He and reggie are the bad news brothers in the woods and he's a great mentor for peachez. She has become so much more busy since he's showed up and her range has increased a good bit too. I fully expect Peachez to be a straight up real deal strike dog in the very near future.
Savoy, the funny thing about you saying that is about 10 seconds after that picture was taken those two decided to they should go a couple rounds to figure who gets to claim the hog. When they are hunting they are great together.....its the other times I have to watch them. Title: Re: Good Sunday Hunt Post by: matt_aggie04 on June 09, 2009, 12:59:52 pm So when are you gonna breed Peachez to ole Sambo there. They both have WB in them ;) Or better yet you can just sell her back to me ;D, she is what I was wanting to keep out of that litter to take the place of her momma.

Title: Re: Good Sunday Hunt Post by: Texas_Cur on June 09, 2009, 01:34:50 pm Would love to make that cross but some genius had her spayed :( She is spayed because I know those puppies would end up coming out blue ;) No if we would have had Sam at the time, I would have held off on getting her spayed, for sure!! So I guess it is up to Matt to make that breeding again Title: Re: Good Sunday Hunt Post by: matt_aggie04 on June 09, 2009, 01:36:53 pm She is spayed because I know those puppies would end up coming out blue

Been there done that. Somehow my old lacy got in with Nine. No blues though. Blacks and some yellow dogs. Title: Re: Good Sunday Hunt Post by: Bryant on June 09, 2009, 01:56:16 pm I'm glad that you guys are happy with him. You knew the dog, and I had no doubt he would suit you.
If you do decide to breed him later on depending on what you cross him over, I might definately be interested in a pup. I often wondered what that dog could have been if I could have started him before he was two years old. Through references by people who had seen and hunted with him, I probably had half a dozen different people call me over the last couple of years wanting to cross a gyp over him. Although I was really tempted to see how he would produce I never turned loose of the blood. He's a virgin. |
