Both the one dog and two dog winners should be considered pros now with well over 25 entries in both events. And as a side note, the high point dog wins a trophy and an envelope with money in it. The 20% that boars nest takes of the Calcutta is awarded to the high point dog. Is there a pro class and woods/amateur class at Boars Nest? Some bayings have the two separate, and the definition of a pro dog is one that has won 1st place with at least 25 or more entries usually!

Understood, but without two classes I guess it don't really matter. Lol Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: Spencer on December 20, 2012, 01:48:56 pm KevinN, they didnt have a separate amature class and a pro class. Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: kaycee on December 20, 2012, 03:22:25 pm Kevin, if you go somewhere that has pro and am classes, they normally consider your dog a pro dog if it has won a class of 25 or more excluding puppy or old and young classes. Also, the high point at boars nest is a combined score of your 1 dog run and your designated 2 dog run. If you double run your og in the 2 dog and don't designate a high point run, its automatically your first run. With the 20% of the calcutta it makes it a nice bonus.

Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: Hippy on December 21, 2012, 05:23:26 pm Might not want to have your first three day bay in march that's when earls is going on.
Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: Tejascatahoulas on December 22, 2012, 10:19:30 am Earls will be march 20-24
Most of the folks that enter will be at Earls. Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: halfbreed on December 22, 2012, 10:52:04 am lot's of folks want to go to a good bay to warm up their dogs before earls .
Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: KevinN on December 22, 2012, 11:09:52 am lot's of folks want to go to a good bay to warm up their dogs before earls . X2 Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: Hippy on December 22, 2012, 02:29:09 pm Thats Understandable just seems that you wouldn't want your first multiple day bay in the same month as the biggest bay of the year. A lot of money to be out paying pen help and buying stuff for the concession stand just to have a small gathering is all I was getting at.

A lot of money to be out paying pen help and buying stuff for the concession stand just to have a small gathering is all I was getting at. With a nice pen, people are gonna show up. If its a big payout, more people and better dogs are gonna show up. More people and better dogs mean better competition. Sounds like a great warm up for the biggest bay in the world. All that being said...."Added Money" is a good incentive to insure a large turnout. If you could get a good cash sponsor you've got it made. Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: Hippy on December 22, 2012, 05:01:26 pm Wasn't saying it wasn't a good pen if I came across that way didn't mean too. I had a blast at the last one and probably met a few of yal there. I know I met halfbreed and ill prolly swing by for one of the days in march of I happen to be off. I was just putting my 2 pennies in.
Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: Tejascatahoulas on December 24, 2012, 01:47:24 am I think earls is the third weekend in march. If they wanted to have before earls then heck yeah people will want to work/compete with dogs before then. I've heard lots of good things about this pen and plan to go in jan
Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: Hippy on December 24, 2012, 02:21:15 am Well everything you heard is probably true. They have a really good start and more good things to come from what I heard at the last one.

Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: rafterj on December 26, 2012, 08:01:56 pm Cody, Earl's is the NFR ~ of Hog Baying..... We plan for Earl's a in year advance, its our yearly vacation. Everyone has to have entry money and other things paid for in the month of Febuary, before the baying in March... It will be more of a monetary situation for people to attend a big show before Earl's. Maybe a big show in April.... this will give folks a chance to recoupe from Earl's.
Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: bfowler on December 27, 2012, 07:47:16 am 5L has a big one in april though.
Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: KevinN on December 27, 2012, 11:34:11 am Entry fees are no more than normal I'm assuming so the monetary demand isn't much different than a single day bay (its still cool enough to camp, don't spend money on hotel). The only difference is - added money to purse = more entries = more time needed for each event, hence three days instead of 1.
If there is $300-$500 added money to the single events and $500-$1000 added to Two dog events you WILL draw a crowd. Whatever month you chose. That being said....a mid to late summer bay would ensure that your three day bay is HUGE! You should trying putting on a bay and adding that much extra money. You barely make enough to pay the help , light bill, and keep the hogs in good shape .If there is $300-$500 added money to the single events and $500-$1000 added to Two dog events you WILL draw a crowd. If I did the money sure as heck wouldn't come out of MY POCKET!!! Sponsors! Sponsors! Sponsors! Hotels, campgrounds, feed stores, magazines, vendors. A little bit of money from a dozen or so sponsors can add up quick. Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: KevinN on December 27, 2012, 12:22:15 pm Oh, and "paying help????". What happened to pals/family? Get some young boys with dogs or something and offer free pen practice time.
Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: bfowler on December 27, 2012, 04:59:00 pm good luck on that ! not to many sponsors for a hog trial if any not much money donated. and people to work for free! haha you cant hardly pay people to work these days also it for a successful pen you need good pen help. hogs and dogs gotta be in and out quickly to keep show movin. on a big trial most the time when you put young fellas in there people get upset or board and dogs get hurt.

Most people, my self included were more than happy to work the pen. In fact, ill volunteer if I come up in Feb.

X2 We arnt gonna go take our dogs out the same month as earls and take the chance of our dogs getting hurt or killed and loosing our entry fee money! We start looking forward to earls as soon as we leave the parking lot every year. It's our yearly vacation! I think if you wanna have a big baying, don't do it in march! Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: Hippy on December 27, 2012, 11:33:55 pm I figured others would eventually chime in. Not only us but if your trying to draw a big crowd that would mean people out of state to and that's just more money out of pocket and juggling time off and kids time out of school twice in one month for them
Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: bfowler on December 28, 2012, 08:39:22 am i agree with all these statements, but cody u do your thing run it how you want you may break the mold of people not doin good around big bays because of what spencer said. but hey you put enough added money in pot and you never know what will happen. Besides they may cancel earls right at last min. never know.
Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: Baby Boy Curs on December 28, 2012, 10:43:55 am Cody we will be there! We ain't scared! Earl's ain't. Like it use to be there are old timers that don't even go to earls to run dogs they go to visit!
Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: Spencer on December 28, 2012, 07:50:47 pm Cody, do what you want, but if you wanna draw more people from out of state, and all over Texas, do it after earls. If not then you will have a lot of locals like last time minus the ones from out of state. This is just my .02. I'm not scared to run my dogs, but I'm not gonna take the chance of getting our dogs hurt right before Earls, and I'm sure others feel the same way.
Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: Tejascatahoulas on December 28, 2012, 08:09:48 pm I agree with Spence, April would be a better turnout for a 3 day event. Unless you wanted to do a one day a few weeks before and then the 3 day in April, ;D Jmo
Title: Re: BOARS NEST BAY PEN WINNERS DEC 15th Post by: boarsnesthogdogs on December 31, 2012, 01:39:36 pm Im not sure exactly what were going to be doing in march just yet but i have to take care of the things that need taken care of now and with all the rain ive had to move pigs to put them in better condition i have laid a pad in the pigs pen and will be pouring concrete on the next dry day and roofing in the mean time if your gonna have livestock you gotta takje care of them like they should be and healthier cleaner hogs means healthier cleaner bays, i believer the hogs should be taken care of just as good as our dogs, so i may be canceling the bay in february depending on the weather i know its only our second bay and already canceling one but i have to do whats best for all the animals, with that being said yeah feed is high were feeding 14% right now and buying it by the ton and it almost 900 a month then yeah you pay ur help and well its a labor of love right now and its hard finding good people that can work or will work, but no matter what we are shooting to have a pen that suits almost everyone and has healthy working stock i appreciate everyone being involved and giving there opinions cuz theres alot of you guys that have been doing 10x longer than i have and i use every piece of advice given so i appreciate it ill work something out for march
