Title: Some new projects of mine!!!
Post by: wine6978 on January 06, 2013, 09:30:09 pm
OK well I have decided I have a decent pack of dogs... No outstanding just blow your mind kind of dogs... So I am taking the best of what I have and the best of what I have available to me and I am going to try and make my outstanding blow your mind dog!! I made this first cross for a few things... Drive... Grit... and loud bark!!! Seems simple, but I am going to start with the basics and hope to have an "amazing" dog in the next 10 years!!! This cross outta give me shorter range, rougher than heck, wont ever give up, kinda dogs. If that happens I have some ideas of what to breed next time in about 3 years!!! I have an idea in mind, and instead of going out and spending crazy money I would rather see if I can make my dream dog... We will see how it all works out!!! But here is the outcome of my first cross of a red gyp of mine to a yeller dog of mine!!!

And rooster! The dog I hope will help me with range if I need it!!!

I know I could just befriend someone with the dogs I have in mind as awesome dogs, but what fun would that be? I would rather breed what I have and what I have access too. That way some day if someone one asks me where my dogs came from I can say... Me!!!

He is supposed to be a crossed up hog dog... I dont know a whole lot on him. He came from a yard in south texas, gritty dog, he is my hunting partners dog. I am just hunting him right now. He says he has some black mouth, some catahoula... I dunno what he is made up of, but he is pure cur!!!

You took the words I ve been lookin for outta my noggin and put em on paper. Good lookin pups. I too have the same ideals of making my dogs what I want. Now granted along the way I ve picked up some fine dogs from buddies I hit with but you gotta start somewhere I almost have enough now to just breed what's in my yard and try my best to make what I m lookin for. Very well put wine.

Best thing sumbody can do is make their own hog dogs. Me and my brother have been working on ours since they were pups and now they are great dogs after taking them out in the woods for a long long time lol

No offense bud but its cheaper to buy an outstanding dog than it is to make one I've done both and the breeding was an accident thought they wouldn't turn out to be anything so sold them and had call backs asking if they could get more just like 'em and the female had got killed and my male had a prostate infection made him sterile and had to castrate him so now im kicking myself in the a** have no access to either blood ive raised pups after pups afterwards out of different good dogs and they never even came close to either of there parents my friend has the best hog dog I have ever seen hunt in the woods in my life and have never threw a good pup and I mean never they have bred him to at least 50 females that were good proven dogs kept every pup and they all turned out to be culls I wish u luck when u make that outstanding dog hit me up ill buy him from u. My uncle had a plot he give a 1000 dollars for in the early 90's and all u needed was him to catch a hog he was silent on trail he would always find and catch the stinkiest nastiest ol boars every time he would stay bay tile you got there then he would catch the hog by the ear and turn towards its body and he never got cut tile he was real old he just got to old he got gutted the vet saved him but he was crippled and he had a pup out of him and the pup was good but wasn't like the old dog. So to me its proven that the real outstanding dog is one in a million and if I've got the money to buy it I will.

O I know it would be cheaper, easier, and a lot faster to just buy a dog. But I have dogs that'll find hogs now, so I am not in a hurry to get rid of them... I just want them better... If I could take a little bit of each dog then I hope I would have the dog I want, so that is what I am doing. Combining them and culling hard.

Good lookin pups. I think you have the right idea. I can personally say that has worked great for me. The only way your gonna have a dog your completly happy with your gonna have to do it that way. It will take tons of time and patience, but will be worth every second when you get there. And your time frame of ten years is close .
