EAST TEXAS HOG DOGGERS FORUM

Bryant(UNDERDOG) came out this evening and made a hunt with Chris, Mandi and I. We went to new place that i've only hunted once and there wasn't a sign of a hog. It's been about a month so I figured we'd try it again. Caught and tied this boar about 10 minutes into the hunt... he went 260# on the scales and had some real good teeth.

Bryant, I enjoyed it and you'll have to come hunt again.

It was a good hog for the puppies. I can't wait to see the hog that makes Tiger stand back and bay ;D

 Good looking dog!! Where did he come from?

He came in the group that I bought from Lavon. All bite, no bark. If I have my story straight, he is a Buck son. Maybe out of a gyp from the Murray's ???...course I may have that all wrong, as there were 7 dogs I picked up, and trying to remember the lineage on all of them as it was told to me was no east task for me ;)

I think you could vest him and lead him in on any hog.  He may wise up one day but he goes straight in and swallows an ear and locks on till you choke him off.  This is the second or third hog over 200 that he has went straight in and caught and I know there are several more around the 150lbs mark.  I am hoping Mike will get tired of him and sell him as a catch dog  ;D  Really cool dog because he hunts hard, you just almost hope he doesn't find one because you know he is gonna grab it.

Yea, I tokk them both and they did good enough,,,,not exactly sure who did the finding and all but my two were right there in the middle....good enough for me and the first hog I have gotten w/ them since I got them a coupple months back.Broke my dry spell.

I talked to Lavon about Tiger when I got him. He's out of Buck and a brindle gyp out of the Murray's dogs, some long time hunter's in my neck of the woods.

I'm gonna give him a little time and hopefully he'll get with the program. Fortunately we were right there with the bulldogs or we would have some wrecked dogs. If not i'll send to someone who like's rough dogs.

We had some neighbors that wanted the hog, so before they took him, I took a couple of pictures and scored him for WWT.  He scored 488.50, would place him 18th in free range.

John, he's pretty leggy and i'll guess him in the 50# range? Still has a lot of growing to do.

I know that  nobody on here really knows me I found   :o  ETHD and kinda joined in the fun  ;D  Having said that I live on the La. side of the Tx. line Lavon D.bought a yellow dog name Buck from a friend of mine I hunted with him several times if U turned him loose he would go find a hog he 'd  locate  then catch also used him a time R 2 as a lead in catch dog does this sound like the same dog?

Different Buck. We called this dog Yella, and he was used just like you mentioned- he now belongs to a man in south Texas and is used as a stop dog for him. Great temperament, and pretty much straight catch.


The Buck we are referring to is a strike dog that gets out a little ways. I try hard not to hunt him on a weeknight ;) He's not a superdog, but hes pretty solid. My wife claims he's in her second string / B team.  ;D

About the only thing Buck and Yella have in common is their color ;) In my mind Buck is a strike dog and Yella is a catch dog...

You can cut Buck loose from the truck, let him take a track, then go hunting your other dogs. Come back to Buck in a couple hours and see what he has worked out. He might still be on the trail, or he might be looking at the hog. Only time I have ever seen him check in was after him starting a track in some palmettos at 7:00am, and he started working his way back near 11:00am. Every other time we have tracked to him. With the exception of one other hunt. We had several inches of rain on a Friday evening, went hunting Saturday am, we never saw any sign, and he never went out past a couple hundred yards. That one hunt got me to thinking that maybe he is not so long ranged, as he is cold nosed. Give him a track and he will take it for hours...If there is not a track, he won't go far looking for one to take... I would not call Buck rough or catchy, he will catch when help is there, but I have only seen him catch a 50# pig on his own. Buck weighs 68# on the vets scale. To me Bucks primary faults are that if he is on a big hog he will walk with it, rather than turn it, and he seems to work a track a slower than some other dogs I have seen. He does not burn up the woods, just slow and steady. Buck is certainly not a super dog, but he's far from being a cull.  ;) 

Yella is going to hunt short range, and pretty much catch what he finds. He has been used as a lead in catch dog, and also as a RCD, however he will do a little hunting on his own. His current owner Ray has mentioned that a time or two he has gone out with the other dogs several hundred yards, and a couple times he has bayed a bit before catching. I guess there are no absolutes, but I still think of him as a catch dog more than a strike dog. Pretty sure Yella is going to weigh about 5-10# more than Buck, though I never had him on a scale.

Mike, I figured out how to help Tiger,,,,vest him up and use him as a catch dog...and retire Cliford w/ me lol  ;)
