Title: Starting age for pups?
Post by: B Tobin on January 28, 2013, 05:29:47 pm
Just want a honest opinion. I know everybody thinks different. What do y'all think is a good age to actually start bringing a pup to the woods?

not until it is phisically able to keep up with the grown dogs  is a thing to think on  . you don't want them getting outrun by too much and getting lost or worse quitting and coming back to you  .

I put 6 month old's in the box for awhile, then clip them to the top of the box. They need to get used to people yelling, dogs barking, driving fast, slamming noises, etc and know that it isnt going to hurt them. They will let you know when they are ready to come out of the box/jump on the ground. When they start box barking and reaching out wanting to go, then let them go.

So, in other words, every dog is different and mature's different.

i was told by oldtimers as a little feller that before about 10 months a pup couldn't physically keep up with the old dogs in the real world .

of course that depends on the pup , the kid thats wanting to brag on the pup ,  and the old dogs in question .

i imagine there are educated people now that know more than they did  ;) ;) ;)
