Title: Hangin with my three yr old (9 hogs) Post by: Dirtydog on February 05, 2013, 11:01:35 pm Saturday evening went to set a couple traps at a place we recently picked up with my boy (3yrs) and Eric and his lil girl (5yrs) and my pops. It is a small place and decided to help the lady out since her entire place was rooted up. Like I said it was small so figured traps would be better than dogs. Take three traps out there with a couple pups & two catch dogs just in case we see something in the pasture. Well dark was quickly coming so we hurry up and drop two traps and set them. Drive to other side of pasture to drop the third and decide to let pups down to run around a bit while we set it out. Well a let them out of box and decide I better turn on my garmin just in case, well before I can even turn it on we got a bay about 150 yds from truck ! It's a huge sounder of about 30-40 hogs and the are raising some hell ! I tell pops to stay with the kids since its a sounder and didn't feel good about walking them into that... Well we fire off both catch dogs and bam caught hogs. Each catch dog gets a sow.
Well as we are sticking the first one I notice my gyp running up to us with a live shoat in her mouth and she drops it at my feet and rolls out ! I step on it so it don't run off and break off Debeaux. Knock it in the head and run over to Harley which has another sow caught. We tie her up and drag em all three back to truck. apparently the kids and old man seen a bunch of hogs run by the truck cause they were all excited. Me and Eric run down 500 yds to the fourth hog and stick her real quick... It's about dark and we grab up the dogs so they don't roll back out. Land owner was happy, happy, happy... Never did get to set the third trap, lol. Used it to carry the live hog home. Pull up to first place to drop and I let Luke out, before we can even finish getting the rest of dogs out of trailer he runs up the canyon on a HOT track with a few others on his tail... Within 30 seconds we got our first bay ! Caught hog. We go on to catch four more nice boars and one sow all between 150 and 250 lbs before lunch... I carried him for miles up and down the canyons and loved every minute of it, but my back says otherwise lol ! Called it a day so everyone can get home to watch the super bowl. But was a fine wknd, with 9 hogs in less than 24 hours for my boy.
