I got a good lookin Natural bobtail Catahoula pup the other day, only one problem with em, found out he's deaf. He's about 7 weeks old.

Should i even try to hunt him or will i be wastin my time? The momma dog got infection on main tit and killed all the litter but 2. I'm just figurin it come from the infection, what ya think? Guy said he'd give money back and i can keep him or cull em, my choice. I told him not to worry bout it, im gonna keep him, and he honestly didnt know he was deaf, so def no hard feelings.

So, any suggestions?

Can it be done oh yeah but going to be a pain in the rear end

   well it's in the genes . i own a def cat , she's my yard dog critter dog . would never think on hunting her . kinda hard to call your dog in when it can't here you  . wont be able to honor a bay  cant here them  . they can make good bay pen dogs but being turned loose to bay wild hogs, not me  . mine understands hand signals and that works as long as you can get them to look at you . when mine was a young pup we was in the woods all the time [ when she wouldn't let me out of her site ] and we tracked many a hog to it's bed . [ i had allready broke her from baying them ] she is a smart dog going on 12 years old now . now i have to  go and wake her up to get after the yotes at night  lol  but unless you are an extreemly patient person with dogs and have the extra time involved to train a def dog . i wouldn't . and i will never invest the time in another . i would seriously recomend finding it a home on a farm somewhere where it can just be a dog .   

x2...it is hereditary in the catahoula and other breeds...get your money back and let him deal with the pup...

post a little picture of the pup. In American Leopard curs it's something you got to watch for if you breed merle to merle. Thats normally when you'll get all white pups or pups with a lot of white and albino traits. This will sometimes lead to Deaf and Blind pups. I'd try to get my money back 2.

One thing for sure , that pup will make someone a jam up blood trail dog. His sense of smell will be super because of his lack of hearing. I sold a Cat pup 2 years ago to a guy for use as a blood trail dog. After a week he called and said the pup was deaf. I offered to give his
money back or give him another pup but he said he wanted to keep him. He turned in to a deer finding machine.

They make a bibrate collar likr a shock collar to use to get te dog to come etc. Tcolts girlfriend has a no hearing cat and he was telling me about them.   If you hunted this dog by its self and or just turned dogs to it it might work but at some point I think you will get frustrated with them I know I would .

To me it aint worth messing with. I would take the guy up on giving your money back. There r too many healthy dogs out there to mess with a handicapped one. Just my two cents

I'll get a pic, he's not merle or nothin, just black and tan bobtail, 7 weeks old this dog totes himself so good, aint a bit of clumsy in em. Smart as a whip. I bought a Facahatchee Cat male off him, and this was an accidental breeding, an infection killed rest of the litter, got rid of the other and just had him, an didnt really want em since breeding was accidental.

So i paid for the other Cat and he said he'd give me this lil male pup for the price of both shots(what he had in him $20) Im not out much really. My plan is just a yard dog, maybe blood trail with em, Got enough property he can live out a pretty good life here, wonderin around

I like where my pack is right now, I got 3 pits 2 stay inside and dont hunt, and all i have is 4 that hunt and are doin great. 2 Cutter Bay Blues, 2 Facahatchee Cats. So Him in the yard won't hurt nothin. Thanks guys for your input

Well, that's awful nice of ya to give him a good home. I owned a deaf dog once. She was smart as a whip too. Good dog. Never hunted with her, but she did anything I asked of her.

I plannin on underground fence, 2 acres worth that way when im not home he'll stay fairly close. and the shock will teach em.

I like him and my dogs seem to tolerate him, kinda weird, i catch myself talkin to him and hollerin for him, knowing he cant hear me. guess its just habit. Thanks again for the advice guys.
