Title: Hog Nest
Post by: jimco on February 12, 2013, 08:29:46 am
I've seen quite a few  nest in the marshes but we don't hunt high land that much and was wondering how wild hogs nest on dry land .
Do they construct a nest like the one pictured below out of vegetation or do they just borrow in a thick briar patch or something ? In the
marsh they construct a nest just like an alligator does. They make a mound so when the water comes up it doesn't flood the nest.

I've seen the same nests in big pine plantations built up just like that. We found one the other day as big as I've ever seen.

I sure didn't find all them spotted hogs in it or I'd be raising em.  Them are some pretty hogs.

I've seen all kinds of nests. Pineywoods rooters will pile up pine needles. Seen them in briar patches, palmettos, marsh grass. My wife's gilt collects goat weeds and builds nests in the yard, barn, and cow pens.

ive seen several nests just like that. havent seen one in the last two years. i was wondering if it had something to do with the weather or if i just havent stumbled across one for a while. We've come across lots of sows with little pigs but never come across the nest lately.
