Use him as a lead in. Haven't caught a hog he couldn't handle yet and he has been on a bunch.

Some are softer and more the stop dog type.
I have had a Stag or two on my yard for the last couple of years and I really like them for pig dogs. I use mine a couple of different ways. 1. Straight sight work in open farm ground or pretty open pasture. They are deadly for this type of hunting and can't be beat. 2. Turn out at first bark or when I know the cur dogs are in pigs. I do this in brushy areas day and night. They will shut a hog down right now and catch with my curs. 3. I do hunt them down with my curs when hunting really rough canyon country. They can go anywhere, straight up or straight down and cover ground in the canyons faster than a straight cur. They are very hard to trash break, if it runs it dies. Haven't even attempted trash breaking, just a lead in or one out dog in open fields.. She is straight catch on hogs. They all have had this similar look. He has used 2 different males and 2 different females and all have been very true to this type. He mainly does the breeding for himself and may place a few with his friends so most are usually spoken for but send me your contact info and I'll let you know if any come available.

He is his best dog he has ever had..He is a coyote killing machine and is straight catch on a hog. I have never seen a dog this fast...
RIght now the plan is me sending a gyp out of the Pit/Reg. Scott type AB breeding that i did 2 weeks ago(if she took) and putting Tall Boy over her..I sure hope it all works out the way i expect it too! Title: Re: Stag Hounds Post by: kansascoyotehunter on March 02, 2013, 08:14:57 pm Have hunted stags for 25 + years here in kansas they are a great dog to use on all sorts of game however on the trash breaking side if you buy a dog that is old it will chase whatever it has been taught to and who knows what they guy or guys before you had trained him on so he will do what he has been trained to do thats only right but if you take a pup and break him as he grows up 90% of the time he will only chase what you teach him i have had dogs that would let cats sleep in the dog house with them and one cat even had a litter in the dog house the dog gaurded them but the dog were hard core on a coyote. and also had pups that run lose and never chase a chicken or cats and were good on coyote also had a litter i put in with goats to get the used to livestock never effected there coyote hunting really solid litter and would not chase a deer for that reason and stay clear of cattle. it would be like putting a championship litter of hog dog pups in with hogs of there size bet they would never chase a hog if they were raised with them!!!!!!! geuss is what i am saying is its how the are raised!!!!!
