Title: Breeding dogs Post by: Wmwendler on February 17, 2013, 11:13:03 am I managed to get my Paris Gyp to breed yesterday. She is the epitome of b*tch and has never accepted a male before and I have tried many, many times. In the past scenarios she would seem ready to go and then when the dog mounts and starts to make contact she would try to rip their head off. Well I had success yesterday evening....they locked up. My question for you guys that have gotten allot of females to breed successfully is should I mate them again? If so when? How long should I wait? She is an older gyp so any advise from those of who have bred and whelped older gyps sucessfully, I'd like to hear what you have to say. She is 10 years old but in great physical condition, and great shape. She still runs all day with the rest of the dogs. I'm thinking I'd like to have a moderate sized litter so as to make labor a bit easier on her, but at the same time don't want the pups to get too big inside of her which would make it harder on her.

Title: Re: Breeding dogs Post by: halfbreed on February 17, 2013, 12:01:46 pm i would try and get at least two ties . i know your pain i tryed to breed one of my catahoula gyps know as [ the brindle B.I.T.C.H. lol for five years and she was 6 1/2 years old before i was succsesfull . but it was worth the wait .

ON the 11th -13th and 15th day we bred them . Never failed much that I can think of . If you dont know the days I would skip and day every other day and get three ties .

Sounds like he wants to get his gyp bred ask should he mate them again and if so when and how long should I wait . Only got a certain time to get it done. As far as cant get her to breed its easy ....................... If the bitch wont breed and wants to fight , duct tape her mouth and hold her by both sides of the head standing in front of her so the male can mount her if you cannot hold her tie her head to a tree stand in front of her and hold her by both sides of the head for the male. If that dont work make you a breeding box strap her ass down and she aint got no choice . Then you can get her bred as many times as you need to . My last breeding i drove for 5 hours, got there and got her locked up in 15 mins and turned around headed back home another 5 hours. If you got the male readily available id let them lock up as many times as possible its not gonna hurt anything.

I bred them again this evening and I'll see if she is still accepting when I get off of work on Tuesday morning. Getting her to stand for him is not a problem this time, which is very surprising just judging by her history. She only comes in heat once a year. I have tried to breed her 5 times before with 4 different dogs and all were failures. Newt was raised with Her from a pup and she has always been more tolerant of him than any other dog. I guess that has something to do with it.
