Title: Dog boxes or No dog box?
Post by: Lacy man on February 19, 2013, 07:21:55 am
I have an aluminum dog box I typically use when on a longer drive or if I m stayin the weekend (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/02/19/ydypa3e9.jpg)

BUT I ve been gettin lazy and when I make short drives normally a hour or less I ll just chain to a extra bar I had added to my toolbox/auxiallry tank and can clip numerous dogs on. In the side by side I also stopped carrying a box because it seems I can put more on chain/leads so what do y'all prefer and why?

Box......with 'LOCKS"...Becuase i like having peice of mind that my dogs will still be there if there is a breakdown or i have to stop and go in a store etc. People will steal dogs out of pickups but the box is just a better security measure. Also helps when raining, good for shade, the list goes on.......

That's the way it started.

I do the same thing. Sometimes box...sometimes not. Temp and weather has alot to do with it.

prefer a box that way they can't jump out and hang themselves when i may leave one or two on the bike while going in after a hog. I also like the fact they can't see everything going on and they seenm to stay a little calmer

Yea definitely agree with the locks I have em on my box as well. In the pic with 10 dogs in my buggie was too many IMO, we did have a few fall out and what not and was constantly having to look back but here lately I typically been making solo hunts bringing only 3 dogs so its not near as bad on chains. Haven't had any fall out or jump out and I run all 3 together so when it's just me its no so bad. Might need to start toting a box when I go with other ppl to lower the amount of dogs I'm totin. Lol

Box for me. I don't like people walking up to my truck when I stop for gas and cokes. Plus if a dog gets hurt I don't want people seeing it , but normally hurt dogs get to ride in the back seat.
To some a bed full of dogs looks bad to non hunters  .  Box keeps them contained most importantly.

I always liked them loose in the bed, that way didn't have to worry about my stuff or truck getting stolen. I would like to see someone try to steal my dog, I would laugh as their face is being eaten.

You know my answer,  unless you are talkin open topped on a 4wheeler, i just dont like em, take up to much space.... I have been huntin by myself here lately and the dogs hit the ground running straight out of the truck so its different for me., just dont care for a box. When i buy my next truck I am gonna buy a lwb, i will build a box for it but its gonna be permenant and still small enough to put a 4wheeler in the bed......i dont like trailers much either lol.

Box for me. Mine is actually being remodeled right now as we speak, lol.

I make stops at gas stations and such, and I get ALOT of nosey/inquisitive folks that wanna look at my dogs and I don't care for that. Mine also has locks on the doors. It's also chained to my truck bed with another lock, just 'cause.

Too many dog theives runnin round nowadays.

If you have dog boxes in your buggy how do you haul out the pork? Do all of you with dog boxes just kill the hogs and not work or sale them?

Built my box so it fits truck and wheeler. In the truck I don't have to worry about inexperienced dogs jumping out. In the wheeler its just easier than fighting with them to stay in back. I haul pigs on top of box. It can get tricky bringing one out alive. Gotta make sure the head and mouth is secure so they don't bite me in the head.

Mine has square tubing around the top. But typical someone else has a wheeler and it gets strapped on it

A box is nice, I use one but i use to rig a truck bed so the dogs can't jump out. Simple....cross chains/ropes with short leads. Dogs nose/chin can reach bed rail but he can't get out...or get tangled with other dogs. You can haul 6 dogs in a normal bed using this method.

Box for me.  I like having my cooler on my box.  I also mount antennas on my box.  Can rig my dogs off or box or tie a hog on top.  I alos like the fact that I can seperate dogs better.  I hunt mostly gyps.
