Title: 6-30-09 Hunt Post by: Mike on July 01, 2009, 07:31:55 am Picked up a new property yesterday that i've had dealings with the past few years. They always wanted us there, but "the board" kept rejecting the idea of having the dogs brought in. Well, the management company called and said "We need you out here now... the hogs are worse than they've ever been!" ;D
So, Chris, Mandi and John met me out there yesterday evening. Long story short, they have a lot of hogs, but most are in little wooded strips inside the neighborhood... and we're hunting outside the neighborhood. ??? We probably saw 40 to 50 hogs total, people walking by, riding bikes, walking their dogs... nothing bothered the hogs. :o So we turned out right at dark, in the woods away from all the hogs, and ended up with three... two shoats and a nice boar. Thought we had a unique looking hog with the white blaze on his face... then caught a shoat with the same markings. Guess it's in the blood over there. Title: Re: 6-30-09 Hunt Post by: coach on July 01, 2009, 08:22:01 am Get as many as you can and as quickly as you can before they change their minds. In Geronimo we did the same was a great place to start puppies. The only thing was that all the neighborhood dogs would try to join in so word to the wise try to hunt as early as possible and stop early.

Yeah Richard, glad Mandi didn't have a camera when me and Chris stripped down to go in the lake after that boar. :o But that water sure did feel good! ;D Title: Re: 6-30-09 Hunt Post by: Wmwendler on July 01, 2009, 09:32:41 am I like those blaze faced hogs....... only seen two in my life.

Title: Re: 6-30-09 Hunt Post by: Mike on July 01, 2009, 10:36:13 am We were hoping they got some rain out there... but it was bone dry. >:(
Title: Re: 6-30-09 Hunt Post by: Circle C on July 01, 2009, 11:28:47 am Something that I found interesting on this hunt... We came up on two groups of hogs within a 1/4 mile of each other that looked entirely different . One group was thin, and looked like they were built to cover some country, the others looked fat and healthy. I would have thought they would look more similar to each other living in such close proximity.
I can't wait to see what Foxy can do out there, she'll be on the hogs before they see her coming. I had a great time, even if it did require a little swimming. "City Hogs, It's what we do!" ;) Title: Re: 6-30-09 Hunt Post by: duece24 on July 01, 2009, 11:42:42 am glad they finally let you in over there....i hooked up with a guy that owns all the land on the backside of eagle springs...he gave me combo's to locks and everything...i has a young catch dog and i got the young bay/strike dogs..so we are working them together..ought to be fun...

Josh, it's not where you're thinking... this place is in Montgomery County. Title: Re: 6-30-09 Hunt Post by: duece24 on July 01, 2009, 09:45:37 pm oh ok...thought they let you in on that other place...my old co-worker tells me its getting worse over there.
Title: Re: 6-30-09 Hunt Post by: Mike on July 01, 2009, 09:58:14 pm It's getting pretty bad over there too, we've already had board meetings, many phone calls, references checked and they still don't see the light. Even though we've got them pretty much surrounded on three sides now with various county properties. But that's ok... we usually get the call when all else fails. Bad for them, good for us. ;D
Title: Re: 6-30-09 Hunt Post by: Bump on July 02, 2009, 10:12:08 am Sounds like a good hunt. Are there not any worries about the homeowners flipping out about the dogs? Figured there would but a few nut jobs around.
Title: Re: 6-30-09 Hunt Post by: Circle C on July 02, 2009, 10:56:22 am Rex,
There are def. some nut jobs out there...it's just part of the game though. Ignore them, do what WE know is right, and carry on. They are not changing my mind, and I am not changing theirs... Most homeowners are glad to see the hogs gone. Title: Re: 6-30-09 Hunt Post by: Mike on July 02, 2009, 11:18:26 am There's always gonna be the whackos when dealing with these city hogs.
But that's why we work very closely with law enforcement and notify them when we go out. I have several deputies and a couple of game wardens cell phone numbers... someone will be there within minutes if there's ever any problems. ;) Title: Re: 6-30-09 Hunt Post by: parker on July 02, 2009, 11:19:09 am that is some good looking blaze faced hogs used to be lots of em here .....

Title: Re: 6-30-09 Hunt Post by: kp on July 02, 2009, 03:34:11 pm Hey... I think I recognize that patch of grass! ;D I took many a hog out of that area before it sold to the developer, and quite a few from the small 60 acres of private land you encountered well after the neighborhood was in. In fact, I trapped my biggest hog right there on that powerline, hang a right, 2nd pole. We'd hang our gambrels from the powerline poles! There's feral cattle out there too...skinned a few of those on those poles as well.

Title: Re: 6-30-09 Hunt Post by: kp on July 02, 2009, 04:01:44 pm It's been a few years since I've poked around in those woods...but I doubt they've changed much.

I take that back, Chris and I were talking earlier and remembered we had caught one about this time last year. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/DEERHUNTER280/6-26-08I-1.jpg) |
