Title: bull dog pulling
Post by: Purebreedcolt on March 10, 2013, 10:51:12 am
Need some ideas on my new bd pulling. Usually choke chain or a switch will cure them for me but this dog is stuborn and wont quit. He dont jerk much but just constant pressure

Put lead on him take the handle go around stomach an wrap lead back to top kinda making a T , where when he pulls it tights up around his stomach , he shouldn't pull much after a few times of this

Had a pit pull just like your saying. Always a constant pressure. He would wear your a$$ out on a hunt. One session with a shock collar and he never put tension on a lead again. When ever he would put tension I would say "QUIT" and hit the button. I might have bumped him a total of 4 times that afternoon. He has never put tension in a lead again. Always walks with slack in the lead.

Do y'all have any that won't pull to a bay?

I had one that would never quit pulling the whole time. I just started carrying a sorting stick with me to the woods or a tree branch.... Y'all know the rest.... He learned that wen I poped him in the back with that lead he better get behind me or he's got something comin he don't want no matter how stupid he was

This really works for my dogs. Keeps me from getting wore out and keeps them from wearing out as well

I agree...but first I use a lead with a 1/4 inch chain and a few quick links and 2 snap...a couple of hard whips between the shoulder blades and it got their attention...kind of like popping a whip...

Get you a pack of ruff cur dogs and be done with a lead in bull dog just my way of hunting I'm not leading a CD in the woods are better yet get dragged to a bay thats out of the question. I like my dogs to find it and catch it every one has there on way of hunting guess some people liked to be dragged threw a thicket.

Those insane ruff dogs are fine till they are caught a half a mile from u on a dog killer and it takes u an hour to get to em and everything u got is cut to pieces or killed when u get there!! Ill take my stand back and bay catahoulas and a good vested up bulldog!! ;D
Just my opinion though...different strokes for different folks!!

Lol I dont think some of yall understand I have a heavy lead he got poped seriously 50 times I had a stick or a reed in my hand most of the hunt and used it a bunch personally I have always liked a tap to the wavos that did not even help. I have always been able to get thrpugh to their head till now it dont matter how much I tried lol. I know I hate walking for some reason I usually just turn loose from the wheeler but trailer tires are shot.  On an up note he caught like a durn vice and was a sucker to get off the ear

Lol u just figured out talk text. It don't understand redneck so I still have to type.

As far as the dog goes basic leash training at home without the excitement will help build a foundation. Do it daily until he acts right at home then when the bay starts u will be a step ahead.

The very end of a small pine limb works great! It makes a noise in the air and the pine needles scare them a little when applied on top of their head! Works wonders and doesnt make them sull up.

Shock collar or grab the dog and hold him down on his back till he totally relaxes. Has worked pretty good for me.

you could try a pronged pinch collar . i suggest one with the quick release. its about the only thing that works on my bulldog and i have tried everything from tritronics to treelimbs.

I usually pull him back and give him a heel to his chest  and tell him to back up,
do it a couple of times and they will get the hint  not to pass you while walking and
and shorten the lead in your hands and he will follow you and not pull you been doing
it for years!! easy for him to follow you thru the briars when the lead is short, can stand a
catch dog pulling and huffing and puffing!!!!  >:( >:( but always keep him walking behind you,
eventually that heel will start sting his chest alittle..

A loop around the dogs waste will work every time! When I'd lead my coon dogs I'd always get me a broom weed and anytime they'd hit the end of the lead I'd slap em in the face with it after awhile I could let the lead go and let it drag behind em and they'd stay right beside me.
