Title: Need help with water bucket!!!
Post by: curdog87 on March 24, 2013, 03:41:10 pm
Alright the situation I have is most likely the same as others. I have a male dog that loves to flip his water bowl. It's like he hates it as much as a hog haha. I fill it up in the am and he drink and in the pm I fill it up again and he drinks again. My main concern would that going into the summer and him flipping and for some strange reason he strokes or something. Yes I'm thinking of just piping the pens out and water nipples in each pen. Also yes I have strapped the bucket to the pens and some how he flips it. And he runs in the yard for about and hr or two each day. He just hates to water bowl. If anybody has solutions or ideas they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch in advance.

I had some that would the same thing. After several failed attempts to fix them, i bought 50gal rubbermaid hard plastic cattle tubs. At 300lbs, they learned they couldnt flip n just leave it alone, other than chewin on it.

Take a pice of plywood and cut a hole out to drop the bucket into.  Then cut two more pieces of plywood.  Use the two pieces as legs.
If he is in a kennel, use some L brackets to screw the legs to the floor.  If he is on a chain put the legs in the ground.

Go to Home Depot and get you a steel galvanized 20 gallon drum. That's what all of ours use, and we've never had one manage to tip that yet, lol.

Get a galvanize bucket and a fence staple and staple the handle to a post. Had to do this for my Pitt he hated a bucket he'd knock his food over and eat it off the ground. I wonder why they do this?

If the bowl is in a pin than wrap a bungie cord around the bucket and hook it to the fence.

If not, try putting the water bucket in an olf tire.

Yup i got one that does it too. I've tried makin him go without water, beatin him upside the head with the 5 gal bucket, nothin worked..... he'd bark, look at me, an flip it.

Boy it'd make me mad, he's in a kennel so i just screwed it to the sides. He'd bust bungie cords. So far so good.

I use 5gal buckets. I drive a T post in ground hook handle over post and add a rope just under the top lips tied around T post.

Get plastic 55 gallon drums. Cut in 1/3s. The middle is a waste but top and bottom make great water dishes. They are too heavy to tip and dog can get in them to cool off if its hot out.

I have a few dogs that do that. I drilled holes in the top and wired them to the kennels. It worked ok. But then I just went and got water tubs they can get in and cool off in the summer. They only get flipped if the water gets low. I put auto fills on them but they chewed the water lines. I am going to put the water lick spicket things from the outside in with the tubs because the water gets nasty fast in the summer. I also have a large cattle water trough with an auto fill. Now nothing gets flipped over.

I have alot of bulldogs that destroy everything, and by far these galvanized pails are THE best. Too big/heavy when full to tip, and they really can't be destroyed (although I've had a few put punctures around the rims fom gnawing on them, lol. But they're completely fool proof for anything non bulldog. And they only cost $20!
