I dont have current pics of mine, but I can get some pics when I get home and post them later.  For the most part, all of mine are track dogs.  If they can smell the hog track, you know right away and they wont quit until they find the hog.  they may go 500 yds and find him or they may take the track 3/4 mile and find him.  Let them go on a track and they all slowly open a little now and then until they bay or jump a hog and he runs.  Then they are wide open mouth.  Mine are not as gritty as some.  They bay from about 4-10 feet back and will try to stop a runner.  No probelm to run a 15-20 mile race that goes 6 hours long.  One of my younger dogs ( 1y ear old) is silent and can be hunted just like a cur (road hunted or casted).  They all can do it by them sleves or in a pack.

I have had plotts for over 30 years. My dogs for the most part are coldnosed & open & some are very gritty. I cannot hunt over 3 dogs togerther or they catch everything & even with 3 they still catch some pretty good size boars. It cmes with a downside tho. I have lost two dogs so far this year.

I lost this dog last week.

The boar on the right, 3 of my plotts caught it & held it.

I'm afraid if I get a plott that as soon as it hops out of the truck it takes off never to return. So do they have any line that want flat out leave the country. And bays a little tighter. How are Pocahontasotts?

If I were you I would look at White Deer Kennel.  Mr Burkett has some nice dogs.

Before you do anything....go hunt with some guys that have plotts!!!  You may find they they dont suite you.

See what thier dogs do and dont do.  Just like any breed, you have all kinds or varriations.  I know of a guy that may be getting ready to sell a young plott becuase he does not hunt real far out.  PM me and I can get u in touch with him.

You say you're a hound guy and would rather listen to a race then a bay any day. You say the Plotts  you got "are where it's at buddy". You say there aint no quit in them dogs and you love them.

Why would you want to cross them with your yella dogs. Sound like you are very happy with them the way they are. What are you hoping to accomplish ?  If you like what you got, Don't fix it if it aint broke.

I can attest to some of Cajuns dogs they are some damn fine dogs and can be a little rough at times lol. They have some awesome bottom to them and can flat out haul some tail. Had the pleasure of making a hunt with him recently and hos dogs definitely can put the meat on the table. Sorry about the loss of your dog Mr Mike

Guys thanks for the empathy on Boss. For as young as he was he was doing some great things.
Xpressboat, Glad I finally got to meet you. Yeah, I hated to loose that 9 month old pup the other day. Only his third trip to the woods, he just picked the wrong boar to catch.

I have a plott that shows alot of bayou Cajun blood in him. Super fast track with tons of bottom, he hunts out about 700yds. He's still a younger dog but definitely had the tools toile a super nice one

Bought my first and only plott from Mr. Burkett. He's been running with some hound cur crosses and been going good rolling out 500-600 yards. He's rough and every time we run to a bay he's there with his mouth on the pig. I like what I see so far.

Mike when we talked today, I did not no what pup it was. Is he a litter mate to the female I got

Title: Re: plotts
Post by: Cajun on December 17, 2013, 06:51:26 am
Juan, Not a littermate to yours. This is a dog I got out of Tn. He brought a beardog gyp that is half my breeding down to breed to Trey's Cowboy dog that I gave him as a pup. This pup would be 3/4 my breeding & was doing great but like the Cowboy dog, very Catchy. Only his 3rd trip to the woods.
Nick, What dogs are in your dogs pedigree?

Cajun he shows bayou Cajun jewel a couple Times on his papers. There's more on there, ill get his papers out and check. He's bred real tight! Looks like brother to sister cross

Title: Re: plotts
Post by: Cajun on December 17, 2013, 07:04:27 pm
Nick, Would you be from Ok. I gave harvey Gibson some pups out of that cross as it was not a planned litter. There is a guy down here that has a male out of that cross. He told me there are some dogs that can stay with him for three hours or so but none can stay with him in a all day race.
The Jewell dog was a real nice dog with lots of speed & a ton of grit. I sold her to a guy in Finland. You will see the Ruger dog in the pedigree. Same as Jewell & he went to Sweden. They use them to hunt Brown Bears.

Cajun me n a buddy I hunt with wound up with a male n female from Harvey. They were out of the same litter your talking about. The female died after she had a litter of pups n I had the male. Wasn't gettin to hunt any so I got rid of him. They were making good dogs though.

Yea Cajun I'm from okla. This dog is out of 2 Ruger x Jewel pups.

Title: Re: plotts
Post by: Cajun on December 18, 2013, 08:04:26 am
Nick, Most of the Ruger x Jewel pups went to bearhunters & they like them. I have a female & she does good on both bear & hogs but she is not in the same caliber as Jewell & Ruger but she is a good solid dog. One of those pups is also in Sweden. I was really expecting superstars out of that cross but the ones I know of are good solid dogs . Hope your dog is doing good for you.
Both these dogs are linebred off of dogs I have had for years & way above average in all respects but it is still a mystery on why some of the pups are not in the same class as the parents.

How long have you been running plotts Cajun?

Yea I like dog pretty good. He's got a lot of talent but wasn't hunted enough as a younger dog. I bought him about 6 months ago and he has really come along ways. He doesn't have any quit and absolutely fly on a track

This dogs daddy is called Swede

Title: Re: plotts
Post by: Cajun on December 18, 2013, 01:26:41 pm
Yeah I had Swede at my house getting him started for some good friends of mine. Came home one day & he had got off his chain & was locked up with his sister. Did not even know she was in heat. Swede is a really nice bear dog up in Wisc.
Lacy man, I have had plotts over 30 years.

Would this dog be out if that litter Cajun? I believe he'll be 3 February

Title: Re: plotts
Post by: Cajun on December 18, 2013, 04:50:35 pm
Nick, Yeah he would be out of the full brother x sister cross. It worked pretty good. The only thing that surprised me was most of the ones I know about were just what I call average gritty. Great bay dogs & will bite a hog if it ties to break but not catchy until the bulldog gets there. I would have thought knowing the parents that some of them would have been pretty catchy.
Swede was out of the Jewel by Ruger cross & probabaly the best out of that litter.

Yea this dog isn't catchy at all. He's just a nice bay dog that'll just bite enough to stop em. How good was the gyp he's out of?

Title: Re: plotts
Post by: Cajun on December 18, 2013, 06:43:47 pm
She is a good solid dog that does not need any help. You can cast her & she will check in about 45 minutes if in no sign, but if she hits sign, she will trail it up & bay it. She needs no help. She is one of those dogs that is not flashy but sure gets the job done & a real nice bay dog.
